Ireland’s Third Patron Saint

We told you about Saint Bridget on her Feb. 2 feast day, and, of course, you know about Saint Patrick’s feast day on March 17. Ireland has one other patron saint,

Saint Columcille, whose feast day is celebrated June 9. Saint Columcille lived from 521-597 AD. Born in Donegal, he was born of Irish blood and may have been a High King in Ireland had he not decided to become a priest.

He was also a poet – writing many of his poems in Latin and Gaelic -- as well as a warrior, missionary and skilled sailor. He also led the founding of a monastery on the island of Iona.

We also hope you’re making plans to join our Saint Patrick’s Day Parade on March 13, 2027. We’ll see you there.

At 4 minutes past noon, 110 years ago today, Pádraig Pearse walks onto O’Connell Street in Dublin and reads the Proclamation on behalf of the Provisional Government, proclaiming the whole of Ireland as a Sovereign Independent Republic.

We are saddened to share the passing of our 2008 Grand Marshal, Jim Lowney.

Jim was a true embodiment of the spirit of our parade: community, heritage, and dedication. His leadership as Grand Marshal reflected a lifetime of commitment to those around him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Immaculate Heart of Mary and St Patrick Church Elizabeth, NJ.

We were honored to have mass led by His Eminence, Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, alongside Bishop Elias Lorenzo, Monsignor Hugh O’Donnell, Father Charles McDermott, Father John McCrone, and Father Ryan Dela Pena, who welcomes our committee to St. Patrick’s each year. ☘️

Thank you also to the students of Union Catholic High School for assisting in setting up our mass each year.
