The field trip that inspired you. The teacher who encouraged you. The local boards and leaders who helped shape career pathways. The boss who then hired you. The ongoing growth and success. The worksite tour you later gave to a field trip of inspired young people = workforce development.

Within each of our 12 local workforce development areas across Washington, millions of people are dedicating their lives to helping others find and secure sustainable employment and build successful, thriving communities. “Workforce development” might not be a phrase we all use every day, but workforce development is what many of us actually do every day. If you have a job or are enrolled in school, if you help people get connected to resources or run a business of your own, guess what? You’re in workforce development too!

Shout out to all 12 of our hardworking and dedicated local workforce boards and their teams. Washington State is an incredible place to live and work because of how you help grow and shape our workforce. Thank you for all you do.

Starting fall on the right route!

Last week, our Board of Directors and staff embarked on The Amazing Race: Workforce Board Retreat Edition, navigating workforce trends, exploring emerging opportunities, and charting the road ahead for South Central Washington.

Along the way, we were fortunate to learn from outstanding presenters and industry partners. A special thank you to Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences for hosting the retreat and opening the doors to its Simulation Center for a firsthand look at healthcare workforce training in action.

We're also grateful to our Board Members, County Commissioner, and staff whose enthusiasm, participation, and engagement helped make the day a meaningful and memorable journey.
