Good evening, Market-Goers! Tomorrow is the big day! It's going to be COLD-- of course-- but sunny, so bundle up like you know you live in Michigan and come out for the fresh air!
I just received word that Emery Foods will have asparagus, rhubarb, and some fresh herbs along with eggs. Deb of Railway Farms last checked in and said her kohlrabi is looking great, and the greens are coming along. And help us welcome new Vendor, Sweet Seasons Orchard out of Concord: they'll have hot cider and donuts to take off that May chill. Oh, and by the way- Cheese People of Grand Rapids is BACK! Sadly, Artisan Baker was hit hard by Monday's wind storms and they've been too busy cleaning up the farm to have time to bake bread. He'll be back soon! Fluffy Butt Farms is out of town at the conference MeatStock, and Bowser Family Farms had to call out for family reasons.
If you saw the event listing, you know we are doing Plant a Salsa Garden as the Kids' Activity. A volunteer will help you plant tomatoes, hot peppers, onions, and cilantro seeds to take home. All the seed varieties this year were selected because they work well in containers, so if you don't have a whole garden you can transplant your seedlings into a pot when they're too big for the little egg trays!
Everyone of all ages can come start their MAFM Cookbook (check out the tips we'll have posted around the Market Booth- snap a photo to keep handy in the kitchen!). We have sheet protectors that will hold recipe cards you will collect throughout the summer, helping you shop and eat seasonally.
If you bike to Market, come show off your wheels and receive a small discount to use at a Vendor as a thank-you.
And finally, please take a look at the Market Map. We are trying to use the whole space this year and help Market-Goers explore all four rows every week so that when there are Vendors in rows 3 & 4, they don't get left out of the action. The Market Tent will always be in row 4 along with the music, and we'll have two "lounge" areas with table and chairs so you have a place to sit and eat your breakfast while chatting with a neighbor. All of this means we'll have more space to play and expand, but it means that some Vendors have been moved around. So, if you can't find your favorite Vendor, do not despair! Ask a Volunteer or the Manager where they are and we will guide you!
Anticipated Vendors for Saturday, May 2 from 8 AM- 12 NOON at 125 W. Green St, Marshall MI: (fyi, probably too chilly for musicians and magicians this week. Cold makes it hard for fingers to work well)
