There is a Dem candidate, who is from the previous iteration of Dist. 5, Chaz Molder, the 2-term mayor of Columbia, which is two counties south of Nashville in Maury County. He is now running in the newly reconfigured district.

TENNESSEE DEMOCRATIC PARTY STATEMENT ON EGREGIOUSLY, RACIALLY DRAWN CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT MAPS

Tennessee Republicans Leave Dark Stain on the History of Tennessee

NASHVILLE – Just now, the Republican-led Tennessee General Assembly passed new Congressional maps set to be in effect for the 2026 August primary election. This map dilutes the voice of black Memphians and harms their ability to elect a Representative from their community.

The following is a statement from the Tennessee Democratic Party Black Caucus Chair, Solomon Trapp:

“That congressional leaders would vote to disenfranchise one of the few remaining sources of representation for Tennessee’s Black communities is, sadly, no surprise. History has a way of repeating itself when those in power refuse to learn from it. This is nothing less than a modern-day revival of Jim Crow, proving that racism remains deeply embedded in the fabric of our political systems. Their aggressive push to force these changes through reveals exactly how threatened they are by our voice, our presence, and our power. By disregarding Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, they are showing that their commitment to democracy is performative at best. This power grab does more than set a dangerous precedent. It forces taxpayers to spend millions of dollars to weaken Black political representation. But to those pushing this agenda, let it be known: you reap what you sow. This blatant effort to silence Black Tennesseans will only amplify our voices, strengthen our resolve, and increase our power at the ballot box.”

The following is a statement from the Tennessee Democratic Party Chair, Rachel Campbell:

“This moment will go down as a dark stain on the history of our state. It is an insult to the freedom fighters and civil rights movement leaders who put their lives on the line to rectify the original sin of America - slavery. What Tennessee Republicans are doing is not only wrong, it is also immoral. This gerrymander robs Black voters of the ability to elect a congressional candidate of their choice, reversing a right that Black Memphians fought for with blood, sweat, and tears. If they thought we would just roll over, surrender our power, and accept a new Jim Crow South, they are dead wrong. Let me be clear. Tennessee Democrats are taking this fight to them everywhere: at the polls, in the courts, and in the streets. They can redraw the maps, but they will never redraw the power of the people.”

Those of us participating from Obion County had a great time being with you good-spirited Weakley Dems, as always. As we discussed afterward, it seemed we were received well by those watching and others parading. It also felt important and meaningful for Dems and Indivisible to make a showing in Dresden.

Miller, as I understand it, already met with the Tennessee GOP supermajority last year, which has been considering similar bills. One version passed TN's Senate in December; another version passed the House recently. Only salvation so far is that GOP's Senate and House conferees have yet to come to agreement.

New York Times columnist Jamelle Bouie says White House advisor Stephen Miller is cruising to create “subordinate class” by ending public education funding for undocumented children in red states. But this is about more than keeping some kids less learned than others. Miller spirited Texas lawma...

Clear-eyed look at 'l'enfant terrible' atop our government.

BREAKING: French Senator Claude Malhuret TORCHES Trump and his alcoholic, drug-addicted administration on the floor of the Luxembourg Palace: "Every time the Epstein affair resurfaces, bombs explode somewhere in the world and cause a distraction!"

This might be the greatest MAGA takedown of all time. Nobody was spared...

"A year ago, here in France, I compared Trump's presidency to Nero's Court. I was wrong. It's the miracle court. An anti-vaxxer, former he**in addict as Minister of Health," he said, referring to RFK Jr.

Malhuret's comparison to the mad Emperor Nero is fitting. It's said that he fiddled while Rome burned. In Trump's case, he's building a ballroom while the entire world goes up in flames.

"A climate-skeptic Minister of Economy. An alcoholic TV host, Minister of the Armed Forces," Malhuret continued, referring to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

"An old Qatar agent, Minister of Justice. A groupie of Putin, Minister of National Security," Malhuret went on, referring to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. Bondi previously worked for the Ballard Partners firm which raked in $115,000 a month by lobbying on behalf of Qatar.

"A Turkish proverb says 'When a clown settles in a palace, he does not become king, it is the palace that becomes a circus," said Malhuret. "His fine team has decided to create a competitor to the UN. Since the creation of the Board of Peace, Trump has triggered more military strikes than Biden during his entire term."

"Every time the Epstein affair resurfaces, bombs explode somewhere in the world and cause a distraction," he continued. "Bomb more to win more."

This is how the world now sees the American president: as a pe*****le desperately exploiting his role as commander-in-chief to obscure the fact that he preyed on children with his long-time pal Jeffrey Epstein.

"There isn't a single country where Trump did not take advantage of the situation to enrich himself without ever forgetting his family. A Boeing plane offered by Qatar," he said, referring to the $400 million jet that Qatar "gifted" to Trump. "Investment in all Gulf projects or elsewhere. Stock market manipulation that only a few insiders benefit from."

"Any one of these conflicts of interest would have caused an immediate procedure of impeachment here," Malhuret. "But we are not here. We are in MAGA's America where public business is conducted in favor of private interests."

Rarely have we heard such an exhaustive yet succinct distillation of the Trump administration's rampant criminality and incompetence. By focusing on individual Cabinet members and what makes them uniquely unfit for office and then expanding the aperture to the broader patterns of corruption and malignancy, Malhuret delivered a master class in political messaging.

Every mainstream outlet in the U.S. should be running this speech to show Americans what the world thinks of our leaders.

Since they won't, please make sure to like and share to spread this far and wide!

We had Jerri come up to our OCDP meeting in NW Tennessee on Feb. 7; she was good then. On March 14, she was up to meet with Dyer County Dems near us, so eight of us went down; she was terrific, with crisp, incisive messaging. Hitting her stride.
