Michele Adams Thomas & her family recently stopped for a photo in front of the mural on South Main Street.

Michele is standing next to a depiction of her grandfather, George “Bummy” Showers on his famous bike! The little one riding on the back of the bike is Michele’s mother, Marie Adams!
Also present in the photo is Michele’s son, Daniel Mohnkern, his son Jeremiah Mohnkern, & Jeremiah’s daughter, Dove Mohnkern.

Do you remember having a hospital here in Union City? 🏥

Union City’s first hospital was opened in 1929 by Dr. Henry Stem, in a 2-story house on the corner of Warden & North Street. By 1949, Dr. Stem’s practice had grown into a new building on North Main St, where it became Stem Memorial Hospital. The name was changed to Union City Memorial Hospital in 1960.

In 1991, a major addition was built onto the hospital, funded by a loan from Saint Vincent Health Center. The new addition featured a Labor & Delivery Department & a Special Care Unit. By 2001, SVHC closed inpatient services at the hospital. Today the building is used for outpatient services only, such as lab work, x-rays, physical therapy, & family practice.
