On September 14, 2012, The Foxie G Foundation was established to honor the memory and enjoyment of life of a phenomenal racehorse named Foxie G. This 501(c)(3) corporation provides rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming for Thoroughbreds, whether off the track or not. Through a permanent retirement and adoption program thes

e horses are given the opportunity to find new homes and often a new career. In addition to the horses, felines could not be forgotten. The need for low cost spay/neuter, TNR and adoption programs has increased substantially with the economy and rise in outdoor and feral cat populations. Through public education, affordable veterinary services and matching cats and kittens with forever homes, The Foxie G Foundation can have a direct hand in offering a positive solution to a rapidly growing issue.

The Charles River Labs volunteers were back today to help get the Newby Horses Helping People Center spiffy for our first classes in September. Windows were washed, cobwebbing was done, weeds were pulled and the topiary horse got a refresh too. This hard working group made short work of a long list!

On August 12, 2026, the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance hosted its first Equine Assisted Services Summit in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

The event brought together professionals and organizations from across the aftercare community specializing in equine-assisted services to examine the growing role of retired Thoroughbred racehorses in therapeutic, educational, and human services programs.

The summit featured educational presentations, a panel discussion, an interactive demonstration and networking.

A panel titled “Versatility of Thoroughbreds in EAS” featured our very own Laurie Calhoun, co-founder of The Foxie G Foundation, Jo Anne Miller of Brook Hill, Boone McCanna of Down the Stretch Ranch, and Chelsea O’Reilly of Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation. The panelists shared their experiences working with Thoroughbreds in equine-assisted services and discussed qualities that contribute to their success.

The summit highlighted the versatility of Thoroughbreds after racing and their roles in equine-assisted services. ❤️

Nothing makes us happier than to see our old ladies grazing contentedly on a lovely late summer’s evening. Many of these girls were racehorses then broodmares. They range in age from their twenties with our oldest, Hyatt Road, turning 30 this year. Hyatt and Wings of the Storm, now 28, are both multiple stakes producing mares.

That doesn’t matter to us though. We don’t care what they did on the racetrack or as broodmares. We even have an old paint mare that needed a soft landing after her owner passed away and she had no where else to go.

All that matters to us is that they have a safe place to call home for the rest of their lives.

This video has nothing to do with animals but much to do with kindness which this world could always use more of. While in Frederick today, we witnessed a group of people assisting a woman whose car got a flat tire leaving a busy shopping area.
They promptly jumped in to get the car to a safe parking spot, changed the tire so that the driver and her groceries could head home.

Our sanctuary mares, many who were once broodmares or had racing injuries that precluded them from going on to a second career as riding horses, enjoying a beautiful summer evening. They will all call Foxie G home for the rest of their lives. ❤️

Serving Together, a program of Every Mind, has partnered with the Maryland Center for Veterans Education and Training (MCVET), Veterans Service Center Goodwill, and The Foxie G Foundation to provide veterans from MCVET with equine assisted, learning and support. More to come on this exciting new program that is set to launch late summer.

Representatives from the organizations recently came out to the farm for a site visit and got to meet a couple of our “kids”, Sweet Pea, and Gaselita. ❤️
