Friends of the Underwood Park

Friends of the Underwood Park We are the Ballot Measure Committee of the Underwood Parks and Recreation Campaign in Underwood WA. So why do we need a Parks and Rec District?

Skamania County cannot financially support the park and buildings. Their immediate and future existence is in jeopardy. The passage of this measure allows the Underwood Community to acquire and maintain the center for our local use. It has been maintained recently by volunteers logging 2200 hours in the past year alone. If you figure this at $15 per hour and pay to have it done, it equals $32,000.

It cannot continue at this rate. The center can be self-sustaining with the passage of the tax levy. The levy is $.20/$1000 of assessed property value. This equals only $20/year for a property valued at $100,000, $80 for $400,000 - or $200 for a property valued at $1,000,000. The tax levy would provide about $30,000 per year. With that, donations, grants, usage fees and rentals, in addition to rental income from the Post Office and cottage, the center can be sustained. If this this measure is not passed the future of the
park and the center, a valuable community resource,
is in jeopardy. Your YES votes and your vote for each of the 5 commissioners is critical!
