From an email sent yesterday 4/23/2024:

Today, the House and Senate voted to approve the reopener, recruitment and retention agreement reached between the Lamont Administration and State Employee Bargaining Agent Coalition (SEBAC) and ratified by the 45,000 state employee union members last month. The agreement is aimed at addressing the state workforceโ€™s recruitment and retention challenges through ongoing labor/management processes and by providing fair pay raises comparable to the private sector and consistent with encouraging workers to remain in public service.

When legislators and the Governor have to debate over the budget, they often forget to balance the cost of not investing in critical public services โ€” from increases in the need for future social assistance programs to and increased maintenance costs on critical infrastructure to a weakening workforce pipeline. These failures to investment may not end up on the balance sheet at the Capitol, but they are deeply understood in the homes of Connecticut residents.

The legislators that stood up today and voted in favor of the agreement chose to uplift working families rather than the special interests of opponents fueled by anti-worker billionaires. We must continue to strive for a Connecticut where every resident has an opportunity for a brighter future. This means we must also fully and permanently fund public higher education.
We can make a difference if we can continue to raise our voices collectively and demand that our elected officials do better to create a brighter future for Connecticut residents.

Stronger Together,

Jody Barr, Executive Director AFSCME Council 4

Call to action:
We are excited to announce that the members of unions in SEBAC ratified all 35 contracts. But we are not over the finish line yet. The contracts now go to the legislature for approval.

We need every member to contact their legislators and tell them to approve our contract to help protect public services. Corporate-backed anti-worker organizations, like the Yankee Institute, and the ultra rich are already attempting to kill your contract. That's why we need ALL members to take action TODAY to ensure the legislature passes the agreements.

Here is how:

1. CLICK HERE and type your name and address. It will generate a letter for your state senator and representative for you to review, edit and send to them right away.

We are excited to announce that the members of unions in SEBAC ratified all 35 contracts. But we are not over the finish line yet. The contracts now go to the legislature for approval. That means itโ€™s all hands on deck. We need every member to contact their legislators and tell them to approve our...
