The Port of Umatilla has opted to end their lease of the Umatilla Marina and RV Park with the Corps of Engineers. We have until September in 2013 to find an alternative lessee or the Umatilla Marina and RV Park will very likely have an uncertain future, and could quite conceivably close. The Corps of Engineers, with failing budgets and limited funds, have already shown precedent, by closing other
facilities like Central Ferry, and Glens Ferry Parks and Campgrounds along the Snake River. Once beautifully maintained parks with boat launches, bathrooms with showers, campgrounds and parking, etc., are now fenced, gated and padlocked to keep the public out. Meanwhile the the facility becomes overgrown with weeds and wastes away. WE MUST MAKE SURE THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN HERE. It is very important for the corps of engineers to understand that as a "Riverfront Community" and Umatilla Marina and RV Park supporters, we are not going to stand quietly by and leave the fate of our beloved Umatilla Marina to chance. It is extremely important for the people to come together and show their strength in numbers by joining the" Friends of the Umatilla Marina and RV Park" and show the Corps of Engineers, Port of Umatilla, and the City of Umatilla what this facility means to us. We must let them know that we will not allow the closure of this facility and it MUST REMAIN OPEN.
