Mather Memorial Library

Mather Memorial Library is located along State Route 220 in Bradford County in the town of Ulster, PA near the beautiful Susquehanna River. W. Mills. Mrs. Fred E.

We serve the historical communities of both Ulster and Sheshequin Townships. Mather Memorial Library began in 1920 with members of the Ulster Study Club each giving a book in lieu of dues. The books were kept in the living room of the Abe Chaffee home. As the collection grew it moved upstairs over the firehouse then to a vacant store offered by D. At that time the collection consisted of 400 volum

es. Mathers was elected librarian. In 1930, the growth of the library made larger quarters necessary. The Mather Store was purchased. The first floor served as the library with meeting rooms upstairs. Mather Memorial Library remains in the same building and currently has a collection of over 12,000 items. When Mrs. Mather retired Miss Mattie Howie took over as librarian and served for 30 years. Mary Gillette became the librarian when Miss Howie retired and continued until her death in 1989.

🦕 Dinos visited the library last night! Thanks to our friends from Bright Star, we met a variety of prehistoric specimens, including a T-Rex, Triceratops, and Raptor. Our young experts in the audience even shared some of their own Dino knowledge! 🦖

Thank you to Bishop's Hardware and Rental for the discounted kayak - that's right, friends! Our board of trustees bought a kayak to raffle off to support our lovely little library!

Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the library or Scales&tails petstore LLC. One lucky winner will be selected on July 25, 2026! All proceeds benefit the Mather Memorial Library.
