Monday Motivation | Grit & Glitz

In a rural community, leadership rarely happens behind a fancy desk.

It happens when a woman opens her business before the town wakes up. When a nonprofit leader stretches a small budget to meet a big need. When someone stays late to encourage a volunteer, checks on another business owner, or finds one more way to keep the mission moving.

Some days, it may feel like everyone sees the work, but few see how much it takes.

So here’s your reminder for Monday: what you’re building matters. The business you’re growing, the people you’re serving, the community you’re strengthening, those things count, even when progress is slow and the resources are limited.

You don’t have to lead like someone in a bigger city or a different season. Lead with the courage, clarity, and care your community needs from you.

And while you’re doing it, make room for another woman to rise beside you. We can compliment, don’t compete. We can be unified, not uniform.

Keep showing up. Your work is making a difference right where you are.

Soulful Sunday with Grit & Glitz

I think a lot of women are chasing success because, underneath it all, they’re longing to know they matter.

We learn early to look for proof: the grade, the trophy, the title, the promotion, the applause. It can show up in childhood, in sports, at work, and in the way we measure our lives against someone else’s.

But when you strip away the titles and the outside markers, you get closer to significance: the truth that your life has meaning, your presence matters, and your gifts can make a difference. When you live from that truth, success can grow from a deeper place. It becomes an expression of who you are—not the evidence you need to earn your worth.

A few ways to realign with your significance and purpose

Question the scoreboard. What are you using to measure your worth right now? Is it connected to what you truly value?

Remember what matters in this season. Your purpose may be showing up in a business you’re building, a team you’re leading, a family you’re loving, or a community you’re serving.

Notice where your gifts meet a real need. What comes naturally to you? Who is strengthened, encouraged, or helped when you use it?

Choose one faithful next step. You don’t need the entire path mapped out to act with courage and clarity today.

You don’t have to become more impressive to become more significant. Start by remembering who you are, then let your choices grow from there.

Tell me if this sounds like you:
Before the doors open, she’s answered a supplier, checked the books, posted something on Facebook, and figured out who can cover Saturday.

In between trying to figure out who can go to the football game, kids pick ups, and schedules.

By closing time, she’s helped a customer, solved a staffing problem, and made a list of everything she didn’t get to do. While being a full time mom and wife.

At the next networking event, someone asks about her goals. She hesitates. Not because she lacks ambition, but because the advice she keeps hearing assumes she has a big team, a marketing budget, and hours to spare.

For a lot of rural small-business women, growth has to fit real life and real resources. Maybe the next step isn’t “go bigger.” Maybe it’s getting clearer about what kind of business—and life—you’re trying to build.

You can lose touch with your own voice when you spend too much time comparing yourself to someone else.

I see it often in women in business. Someone has a good idea, a meaningful mission, and something real taking shape. Then their focus shifts. Instead of asking, “How do I keep building what I’m called to build?” they start asking, “How do I get ahead of her?”

Ladies, don’t buy the lie that someone else has to lose for you to win. Her success does not erase your opportunity. There is room to build something that is yours without turning another woman into your competition.

I’ve had to practice shifting my own mind from scarcity toward prosperity. Two things help me:

1. When comparison shows up, get curious about what it’s pointing to. Instead of criticizing someone else or copying what she’s doing, ask yourself: What do I admire here? What does that reveal about what I want to create?

2. Measure your progress against your own purpose. Look at the goals, values, and people you set out to serve. Celebrate the steps you’re taking, even when someone else’s path looks different or moves faster.

Prosperity is a mindset we practice. Keep your eyes on what you’re here to build. Your authenticity lives there.

I read something today that stayed with me: if you want to go far, study the failures along the way, not just the wins.

That’s one of the reasons I started Grit & Glitz.

I was tired of hearing only about people’s high points. I wanted to hear about the broken moments. The plans that fell apart. The setbacks that made someone question whether they could keep going. The lessons they carried out of the seasons that nearly brought them to their breaking point.

Success is easy to celebrate once it’s visible. But there’s a whole journey behind it that rarely makes the highlight reel.

At Grit & Glitz, we make room for that story, too. The hard parts don’t disqualify you from success. Often, they’re where wisdom, courage, and grit are formed.

Something to do today: Think of one difficult moment that taught you something you still carry. Write down what it taught you—and share that lesson with someone who might need it right now.

Last night’s Grit & Glitz gathering was such a beautiful reminder of why this community matters.

Our conversation centered around Dust or Diamonds—the reality that pressure does not automatically produce something valuable. Sometimes pressure refines us, but sometimes it simply depletes us. Wisdom is learning to recognize the difference.

We asked ourselves:

What is the goal?
What is this costing me?
What is it producing?
What needs to be communicated or changed?

Not every difficult season requires us to leave. Sometimes we need perseverance, humility, or an honest conversation. But sometimes we need the courage to set a boundary, protect our time, and choose differently.

Thank you to every woman who came, connected, listened, laughed, and shared space with us. There is something powerful about women gathering without competition or performance—just honesty, encouragement, and a genuine desire to grow.

A special thank-you to The Emerson for hosting us, Elegance by Heather, Hanzbach Mobile Bartending, and everyone who helped make the evening so meaningful.

Remember: your time matters. Your energy matters. Your purpose matters. Not everything asking for your commitment deserves access to all three.

Some pressure is forming a diamond. Stay with it.

But if something is only producing dust, you do not have to keep sweeping it up, breathing it in, and calling it purpose.
