PFBC surveyed the fishers on the 14 mile C&R AT stretch of our river from March thru October in 2024. As of now no results have been made public. Our South Central District Fishery Biologist will be presenting the results of a trout poulation survey (also conducted in June on the same stretch) at our January 16th LJRA meeting (public invited), He has also committed to present the fisherman survey results at the February/March LJRA meeting. Anyone interested in details should visit our website www.littlejuniata.net, or PM me . The fisherman survey seemed to be in favor of a "slot limit" . LJRA has publically expressed our objection to the killing of our wild browns of any age group.

Our mission is to: “Monitor, Preserve and Improve the Little Juniata River and its tributaries as cold water resources”.

I attended the auction for the Green Hills property on the Little Juniata River yesterday at 6 pm along with LJRA Director, Lee pryor, While there were two groups who bid, the minimum bid of $2,500,000 was not met. The high bidder was a company that currently manages 4 camp grounds in Pa., including Seven Mountains Campground near Spring Mills. Their bid was $2,100,000. I talked to them after the auction. Their intent is to manage the existing RV Park/campground and to "develop" the rest of the property for recreation. I informed them of the PFBC Public Fishing Access agreement in place for most of the property. They were aware of it. Note that there were 40 or 50 people present including a bunch from the RV park. They were pleased to hear that the campground might be continuing for them. Of course the seller can reject the bid since it is less than the published minmum. The seller (Methodist Church Council) might also accept the offer. We will have to wait and see. Bill Anderson

LJRA is planning to replace the riparian buffer that was over 50% destroyed when the sewer pipe was removed on Sandy Run and the water main was repaired at a river crossing. Both of these projects are being planned for Sept. 7 and 8 . please contact us at [email protected]. Large trees will be planted requiring hand dug holes. Cold drinks, gloves and tools will be provided. You can also PM either Bill Anderson or Angie Spagnoli.

With the continued heat and low flow in the Little Juniata River, LJRA continues to recommend that trout fishing be limited to the early morning hours when water temps are below 70 degrees, or better yet leave the wild browns alone and fish for bass in area lakes or the main Juniata until conditions improve. LJRA will meet this coming Thursday, August 8th. at 7pm , Marzonis restaurant.

PFBC is conducting a trout population survey on the Little Juniata River. The sections being surveyed are the same as the 2010 survey. It will be very interesting to compare the results after 14 years. We believe that our wild browns are bigger, healthier and more numerous. than ever. We shall soon see. LJRA will publish the results on our website when they are available. We have video from both surveys for comparison.

Starting today we are facing an extreme heat wave in our watershed. Flows are not bad at 152cfs for this time of year, but they are heading lower every upcoming day. LJRA recommends that if you must fish for our trout, fish the morning hours from dawn til no later than 1pm. And if you find water temps to be over 70, go bass fishing.

Some of you may be aware of the "Squatters Hole" downstream from Grier School. Someone (we now know who) pulled a delapidated camper down there and the same person has been shooting across the river and trashing the riverbank. This person is now in custody for other charges. including drugs. State pol;ice are asking us for actual witnesses who have seen this person at Squatters hole or who has witnessed a shooting or trashing incident. send me an email [email protected] . Bill
