Our program depends on 100% of donations to fill these backpacks and appreciates all the donations and support we have received. End 68 Hours of Hunger is a private, not-for-profit, effort to confront the approximately 68 hours of hunger that some school children experience between the free lunch they receive at school on Friday afternoon and the free breakfast they receive at school on Monday mor
ning. We are entirely volunteer based and 100 percent of funds go directly to feeding at-risk children unless otherwise designated by the donor. THE DRACUT PUBLIC SCHOOLS IDENTIFY CHILDREN IN NEED and send home permission slips to receive backpacks from our program. Each week we fill backpack with nonperishable food. We then deliver the backpacks to the Dracut Public Schools, 1 for each child on the program. Each Friday the child gets their backpack and takes it home and then returns the empty backpack on Monday to be filled again. END 68 HOURS work is never done.., school is almost out. This summer we will be providing food boxes to or families. At this time we are helping 13 families, We need to be able to fill these boxes with enough food to help these families get thru the entire month as the children are no longer in school and will not receive meals from school. Suggested donations of cereal, ramen noodles, peanut butter, jelly, crackers, soup, rice, instant potatoes and tuna but accept any non perishable items. Childhood hunger – or food insecurity – is a national problem. It occurs when children receive insufficient food on a regular basis and in many cases, missing meals entirely. After a while, these children also experience ‘fear of hunger’ that affects their behavior as much as physical hunger affects their bodies.
