Happy 4th of July

04/16/2021

The Mid Managers Union employees at Town Hall have been made aware that Mr. Justin Sultzbach, the Assistant Town Administrator has accepted the Town Manager position for the Town of Winchendon MA. We are both excited for him and his new opportunity and, selfishly saddened we are losing him as a fellow employee. Over the course of the past four years, Tyngsborough Town Hall Employees have had the pleasant experience of working for and with Assistant Town Administrator Justin Sultzbach. His professionalism and ability to create partnerships with each stake holder in projects and staff was a testament to his ability to lead.
Mr. Sultzbach along with the rest of the Administrative team were key to the morale of the employees during the pandemic. He showed genuine care and concern for our fellow members during that difficult time and his efforts did not go unnoticed.
Being a leader is not a right by the nature of your job or title, that only affords a person the opportunity to a lead. Being a leader is only possible when you have built trust and confidence to those around you. Mr. Sultzbach has met this challenge with the members of the Tyngsborough Mid-Managers.
We are grateful for the opportunity to have worked with Mr. Sultzbach and wish him well in his new endeavors.

The Town of Tyngsboro board of selectman and the Town Administrator voted to reduce the Veterans Agents hours and services effective November 15th despite numerous letters of support from citizens and the American Legion urging them not to do so. Some of the Board members swore they would not support such a move but did without telling the Tyngsboro citizens in order to avoid embarrassment. Not one of the Selectmen have visited the Veterans agent personally at his office to discuss and gather feedback about potential impacts of their actions. The Veterans agent has been a 40 hour a week position for 9 years due to Tyngsboroughs unique geographic and demographic community. Not that case load is the entire scope of work, but the Town of Tyngsborough has cases equal or more to Dracut and Chelmsford which are triple the population. Both Dracut and Chelmsford have outstanding agents but each Town and city has different demographics and situations that affect it's scope of work so an "apple to apple" comparison is not possible. The Veterans agent has stated infatically that his over all work load has increased throughout the past 9 years. The Board of Selectman and Town administrator snuck this reduction into the Town budget without having a public discussion on the impact of services. The Town Administrator and his assistant were given 6.3% and 6.8.% raises this year which is a far cry from what the general public will get during this crisis.
The Veterans agent provides unemployed and under employed veterans assistance as well as many other functions related to State and Federal benefits and has seen an increase in cases in just the last few weeks for this reason alone. Unfortunately, the Board and Administration will go after the Veterans services to find money for the administration raises as well as targeted him for his continued Military Service in the National Guard and Union affiliation.
As a citizen any reduction in services should be a public discussion. Call your Selectman and let them know this is not okay and to not impliment this cut to this critical service to the Town. Support our Veterans and our Veteran community

I have always considered being your Veterans Agent honor and an opportunity to help Veterans and make Tyngsborough the model for other communities. The three times over the past 10 years I have had to leave to serve my Country, I have always looked forward to coming back to being your Veterans Agent.
Over the past three weeks during talks, support letters from The Lowell V.A. Clinic and The Tyngsborough American Legion and various calls from citizens went the Board of Selectman to let them know how important this service was to Tyngsborough and surrounding communities to leave the office at the full 40 hours.
At this time nothing has been finalized and there is no implementation date to reduce services or hours in the Veterans office. The Town of Tyngsborough will always have my unwavering dedication to our Veterans, Tyngsborough Community and our Country.
Neither the Union nor I will not be able to respond beyond this statement and appreciate the support.
