Today is National Feral Cat Day, and we’re thinking about the cats who may never curl up on someone’s couch but still deserve kindness and care.

They’re the cats waiting on a porch for breakfast, slipping out from under a shed, or watching from a distance until their trusted person sets down a bowl. They may not let us touch them, but their lives matter.

At Mississippi Animal Project, we help community cats through Trap-Neuter-Return, or TNR. Cats are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and ear-tipped before returning to their outdoor homes. That little tipped ear tells a story: someone cared enough to help.

Spaying and neutering prevents more kittens from being born into an already difficult life. Every cat we help is a step toward fewer unwanted litters in our community.

To the people who feed them, keep their water bowls full, provide shelter, and spend hours waiting beside a trap: thank you. We know so much of that work happens quietly.

What’s one thing you didn’t expect when you brought your pet home?

Maybe you thought you were getting a walking buddy and ended up with a couch potato. Or you said they wouldn’t sleep in your bed, and now you’re the one with six inches of space.

We hear plenty about how animals change when they find a home, but they change our lives and routines, too.

We’re grateful for everyone who has helped with our vet bills so far. As of today, we’re only 30% of the way to our goal, and we still have a lot to cover.

Until our balances are paid down, we cannot take in more animals. That’s a hard place to be when we know there are dogs and cats who need help.

These bills are for care animals have already received. Dogs like Pink, who needed treatment for painful bladder stones, and Marley, who was found near death and needed an emergency blood transfusion. We’re thankful they got that care. Now we need help paying for it.

If you’re able to give this Wednesday, please consider helping us close the gap. A gift of $5 or $10 matters, especially when several people pitch in.

What does a happy ending look like?

Sometimes it’s a dog sleeping on the couch with their belly in the air. A cat claiming the sunny window. A once-unwanted animal appearing in every family photo.

Those ordinary moments mean so much to the people who remember where their story began.

🐾 It’s Transport Day, and 18 lucky pups are heading to new lives today!

Behind every departure is a whole lot of work that never makes it into a photo.

Vet appointments, health certificates, paperwork, coordinating with adopters and rescue partners, planning routes, preparing crates, and getting every pup ready to travel. So many details have to come together before those wheels can roll.

And then come the goodbyes. Our fosters have loved these dogs through the uncertain days, helped them heal, and prepared them for this moment. Letting go can be hard, even when a beautiful future is waiting.

To everyone who helped these 18 pups reach today, thank you. Every ride, donation, shared post, and hour of care helped make this journey possible.

Safe travels, sweet pups. We can’t wait to see you loved, settled, and home. 💚
