Americans should not have to leave their own country and risk their safety to access potentially life-saving treatment.

Today, The New York Times reported on the dangers Americans may encounter when seeking psychedelic treatments at clinics abroad, where patients can face inconsistent medical standards and limited legal recourse if they are harmed or mistreated.

Americans for Ibogaine CEO W. Bryan Hubbard responded:

“Individuals should not have to flee ‘The Land of the Free’ to save their own lives. Today’s story in The New York Times amplifies the urgency of bringing this treatment out of a state of offshore anarchy and into a safe, regulated, and medically supervised system here at home.”

Today marks another defining moment for the movement Americans for Ibogaine built.

Less than two years ago, ibogaine and psychedelic medicine were largely absent from the national healthcare conversation.

Since then, Americans for Ibogaine has united Veterans, researchers, clinicians, lawmakers, Tribal leaders, philanthropists, patient advocates, and millions of Americans behind one mission: bringing evidence-based psychedelic medicine into the American healthcare system.

Today, that work reached another major milestone.

The federal government announced coordinated actions across HHS, the VA, FDA, NIH, ARPA-H and HRSA implementing the Executive Order sought and secured by Americans for Ibogaine. Together, these actions accelerate ibogaine research, strengthen clinical readiness, and move future FDA-approved psychedelic therapies closer to the Americans who need them most.

This didn't happen overnight. It happened because thousands of people refused to accept that the status quo was good enough.

We are proud of what this movement has accomplished, and we're not done yet.
