The spirit of celebration and reverence filled Mt. Elem Missionary Baptist Church in Whitehouse, Texas, on Sunday, March 29, 2026, as members and guests gathered for a beautiful Palm Sunday observance at 3:00 p.m.

Hosted by Star of Bethlehem Court #175, Mellie Arps–Living Stream Court #195, and Rose of Tyler Chapter #55, the service brought together the Heroines of Jericho and the Order of the Eastern Star in a powerful display of unity, faith, and fellowship.

The message for the day, delivered by Brother Howard Heggins, was both powerful and thought-provoking. His sermon, titled “We Ought to Come to Jesus,” resonated deeply with the congregation. He challenged everyone with a meaningful question: “What obstacles are keeping you from Jesus?” That question stirred hearts and encouraged personal reflection among all who were present.

On behalf of the Order of the Eastern Star, heartfelt appreciation was expressed by Shanna Hawkins, DDGM of District 3, for such an inspiring and spirit-filled message. The sermon reminded the congregation to examine their lives, release fear, doubt, and distractions, and draw closer to Jesus with renewed faith and purpose. Brother Heggins’ words truly uplifted and encouraged all in attendance.

The service was described by many as a great service—filled with worship, reflection, and the undeniable presence of God.

Following the service, fellowship continued as a delicious dinner was served. Guests enjoyed a wonderful meal of Chicken Parmesan, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls, and tea. The meal provided the perfect opportunity for members and visitors to connect, share, and celebrate together in love and unity.

Overall, the Palm Sunday observance was a meaningful and memorable occasion, leaving all who attended spiritually enriched and grateful for the opportunity to come together in worship and fellowship.

Rose of Tyler #55 Shines Bright for Multiple Sclerosis Awareness

During the month of March 2026, the members of Rose of Tyler #55, Order of the Eastern Star, proudly stand united in support of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Awareness. Under the dedicated leadership of Worthy Matron Donna Taylor, our chapter has embraced this meaningful initiative with compassion, purpose, and community spirit.

As part of District 3, and guided by our District Deputy Grand Matron Shanna Hawkins, our chapter of 37 active members has come together to make a visible impact. In alignment with the NWCGC Health & Wellness Committee’s call to action, we are participating in activities that promote awareness, education, and support for those affected by MS.

One of the most inspiring ways our members are showing support is by wearing orange and sharing photos across social media. Orange, the official color for MS awareness, symbolizes energy, hope, and solidarity. Through these posts, we are not only raising awareness but also encouraging conversations and understanding about this often misunderstood condition.

In addition, members are participating in walking challenges and committing to staying active throughout the month. These efforts reflect our belief in wellness—both physical and emotional—and our dedication to causes that impact lives within and beyond our community.

Multiple Sclerosis is a disease that affects the central nervous system, and while there is currently no cure, awareness plays a crucial role in driving research, support, and advocacy. By standing together, Rose of Tyler #55 is helping to shine a light on the importance of early detection, ongoing care, and community support.

We invite our sisters, brothers, and community members to join us in this effort. Whether by wearing orange, taking a walk, or simply sharing information, every action makes a difference.

Together, we walk by faith and not by sight—uplifting those impacted by MS and working toward a future filled with hope.

Rose of Tyler #55 Celebrates Women’s History Month and Honors Our SHERO

During Women’s History Month, chapters across the jurisdiction of the Norris Wright Cuney Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star are taking time to recognize the extraordinary women who strengthen our Order and our communities through service, leadership, and dedication.

As part of this celebration, the Community Engagement Committee encouraged each chapter to recognize an unsung SHERO—a woman whose quiet leadership and faithful service deserve to be uplifted and celebrated.

The members of Rose of Tyler #55 Order of the Eastern Star are proud to recognize Worthy Matron Donna Taylor as our SHERO for Women’s History Month.

Worthy Matron Taylor has faithfully led our chapter for the past two years with grace, commitment, and a true servant’s heart. After demitting from a chapter in another state, she joined Rose of Tyler #55 and immediately became a guiding light for our membership. Her leadership has helped strengthen the chapter while keeping the principles of the Order at the center of everything we do.

Under her direction, our meetings have included meaningful and educational chapter lessons that inspire members and deepen our understanding of the Order. She has also ensured that community service remains a priority, organizing opportunities for members to give back and represent the chapter in a positive way.

What makes her dedication even more remarkable is that she accomplishes all of this while working a full-time job and traveling from Longview, Texas to Tyler, Texas for meetings and chapter activities. Her willingness to make that commitment demonstrates the passion and loyalty she has for the Order and for her sisters and brothers.

Worthy Matron Donna Taylor exemplifies the qualities of leadership, service, and perseverance that Women’s History Month celebrates. Her efforts often happen quietly, but the impact she has made on our chapter is deeply felt and greatly appreciated.

Rose of Tyler #55 proudly salutes our SHERO and thanks her for her tireless dedication and inspiring leadership.

Rose of Tyler #55 Celebrates Heart Health Month in Red

Rose of Tyler #55 proudly honored Heart Health Month by wearing red at this month’s chapter meeting, standing united in support of heart disease awareness and prevention. The sea of red throughout the room was a powerful reminder that heart health matters—especially in our communities.

Under the leadership of Worthy Matron Donna Taylor, the chapter emphasized the importance of “knowing your numbers” to help prevent heart problems. Key numbers include your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, blood sugar, and body mass index (BMI). Monitoring these regularly can help detect early warning signs and reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death, but many risk factors are preventable. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, smoking, stress, and lack of physical activity all increase the risk of heart complications. By making small, consistent lifestyle changes—such as eating a balanced diet, limiting salt and processed foods, staying hydrated, and getting regular checkups—we can greatly improve our heart health.

Exercise also plays a vital role. Just 30 minutes of moderate activity, such as brisk walking, at least five days a week can strengthen the heart, improve circulation, and lower blood pressure. Staying active not only supports physical health but also boosts mental and emotional well-being.

As a Prince Hall Affiliated chapter under the Norris Wright Cuney Grand Chapter, District #3, Rose of Tyler #55 remains committed to community education, service, and promoting healthier lifestyles. By wearing red and spreading awareness, the chapter continues its mission of uplifting and empowering others—heart by heart. ❤️

Rose of Tyler #55 Celebrate Heart Health & Unity in Longview

The Tyler Roses were in full bloom this Sunday as we proudly supported heart health initiatives through the Norris Wright Cuney Order of the Eastern Stars. In the true spirit of service and sisterhood, we traveled to Galilee Baptist Church in Longview, Texas, for a special Super Bowl Sunday worship experience centered around unity and community engagement.

Under the leadership of Rev. Jaylen L. Williams, Pastor, the service at Galilee Baptist Church was both uplifting and informative. The message resonated deeply, emphasizing faith, and fellowship.

Caring for our physical health—especially heart health, remains a vital concern in our communities.

As part of our outreach efforts, the Tyler Roses set up a heart health awareness table where we distributed candy and brochures filled with helpful information on maintaining a healthy heart. Our presence was warmly received, and we were excited to spark interest in membership among several church attendees. It is always a proud moment to see our organization growing and reaching new communities.

This church was thoughtfully chosen for this initiative because we have dedicated members in the Longview area who faithfully travel to Tyler for our events. We were especially honored to support our local sisters including Sister Myrtle Smith, our Worthy Matron Donna Taylor, and Sister Paula Borens, all of whom reside in Longview. Sister Stacy Adam, who lives in nearby Marshall, Texas—just on the other side of Longview—also shares close ties to this area. It was meaningful to bring an event closer to home for these committed members.

Additionally, we were proud to worship alongside Pastor Williams, who is also a member of Dewitt Lodge 429 in Tyler, Texas, further strengthening the bond between our Masonic and Eastern Star families.

Following the powerful service and fellowship, we gathered for lunch at China King Buffet, where we enjoyed delicious food and engaging conversation. The laughter and heartfelt discussions reminded us that our mission extends beyond meetings and programs—it is about building relationships and uplifting one another.

The day was a beautiful example of unity, outreach, and growth. The Tyler Roses continue to stand committed to service, health awareness, and community connection. We are proud of how we are blooming together
