Refuge of Light Providing a safe haven, redemptive rescue and restoration for sexually exploited female youth

Refuge of Light seeks to transform the broken life into the brilliant life through individualized plans of restoration. To equip young girls with confidence and the skills to realize and formulate their own vision for a new, healthy and meaningful life. The work that we do is in response to Matthew 25:40 when Christ brings attention to the eternal value in providing for the ‘least of these’. To di

spel any confusion He states, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for ME.” We have the opportunity to assist in providing a hope and a future for young girls that have been cast aside and shamed by their abusers. We also have the great responsibility to disciple these children that have been labeled as ‘throw-a-ways’ and show them the beauty and brilliance that can come from a life of brokenness: 2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who said, “Let the light shine out of darkness,” made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month in the United States. Since 2010, presidents have dedicated the month to raising awareness and educating the public about identifying and preventing human trafficking. The goal is to recognize that everyone can play a role in the fight against this crime. 👊🏼

One more great share for Human Trafficking Awareness Month.

One more great share for Human Trafficking Awareness Month.

We often talk about how kids today are “always online,” but something important is happening underneath that headline.

As researcher Eli Stark-Elster notes, children throughout human history have had independence. Room to explore, take small risks, and develop their own peer cultures.

Now, kids have found a new frontier they can explore with limited oversight: the digital world.

The challenge is that we’ve created an environment where children are often supervised offline and almost completely unsupervised online, not because parents don’t care, but because the digital ecosystem was never built with their safety in mind.

Children will seek autonomy. That’s normal. That’s developmentally necessary.

Our job is to ensure that when they go online to explore, there’s a digital safety net beneath them, one that protects them from exploitation while still giving them space to learn, play, and connect.

At Thorn, that’s exactly what we’re working to build. Because safety shouldn’t come at the cost of childhood, and childhood shouldn’t come at the expense of safety.
