CATIO UPDATE! We have enough in donations to get started on the concrete pad!! Woo-hoo!!

Now, does anyone know how to proceed in a timely fashion? I plan to contact a couple of contractors who work with concrete, but I'm afraid that since it's already the end of May, everyone is going to already have their schedule set for the summer. I know our project is small, but we need to get booked and get moving! Does anyone know how to do this or be willing to give us some advice? I can do a lot of the prep work, but don't want to miss something important. Anybody have a contact or an idea? We're also looking for fundraising ideas because we don't have enough to finish the catio right now, just enough to get started.

LOST LOST LOST LOST LOST LOST LOST

Mabel went walk about this morning 2 miles south of Tyler. She's wearing a halter, but likely to run, so call 605- 651- 3286 if you see her. Hopefully she's easier to spot than our normal posted animals! Farm country! Let's get her home before she gets herself in trouble!

When I think of my dad, I think of him emptying his pockets at night- screws, receipts, sometimes a few kernels of corn, a bit of wire, and always- coins. The whole collection was dropped on the counter and he would pick up the important parts the next morning, ignoring the rest which ended up in a dish until it had been there long enough to throw out or, in the case of the coins, dropped into a jar. I think everyone has a coin jar, dish, box, or just a pile sitting somewhere in their house. Let us help! We'll take those pesky, cluttery coins out of your living space. The ones you just never get around to taking to the bank. The ones the make such an ungodly noise in the vaccuum. The ones you're afraid one of the kids will decide looks tasty. The ones that end up encased in something both sticky and dusty in the bottom of the junk drawer. The ones that you find in the console of the car when you finally deep clean as the weather warms up. Those coins that contribute to your clutter, but are too valuable to ignore. Our goal is to fill this jar by Father's Day. This very large, very heavy jar. As you can see, we've got room for yours! We'll help you jumpstart that spring purge. Drop your container of coins by the rescue and we'll add it to the jar! Who knows what you'll accomplish in organizing the rest of your space if you clear that counter, desk, or dresser of just one thing! You know you want to! If you live farther away, we'll have to cheat a bit. Count it up, take it to your bank, venmo or paypal the amount to WKCR, and we'll add it to the jar! Metal coins are great, but those foldable ones are fabulous! Our kitties want your Pocket Change!

Check out our new addition! Our unreliable, donated (which we appreciate very much!) - thus free, washer couldn't keep up with our messy babies! We replaced the motor last May, but, sadly, it gave up again last Tuesday. So, we road tripped to Sioux Falls today to replace this very necessary, non-negotiable piece of equipment. Luckily, we were able to find one, because the dirty blankets are waist high! And not exactly smelling of roses!! We also lost our fan this week, but that was easier to replace! I don't know what it says about me that I'm this excited about a washing machine!

Friendly cats are not “working cats.”
Stop using socialized, outwardly friendly cats as barn cats or ratting cats for your backyards because it’s convenient.

If a cat walks up to strangers for attention, wants affection, seeks people out, and clearly trusts humans… that cat deserves a home.

We do not want to hear the excuses.

A truly feral cat that only trusts their caregiver and wants nothing to do with the public is one thing. But these overly friendly cats being dumped into alleys, warehouses, , back yards, factories, or car shops to fend for themselves is absolutely unacceptable and irresponsible.

Friendly cats are far more vulnerable to abuse, cruelty, being injured, poisoned, hit by cars, or simply disappearing because they trust people.

And honestly, don’t they deserve more than surviving off the streets while dodging danger every day?

The fact that society continues to treat cats like disposable pest control instead of living beings with value is part of the problem.

Maybe before defending it, you should have a conversation with yourself about why a friendly, loving cat having an actual home feels optional to you.
