Piney Woods Darkroom is back out in the world.

This Sunday we’ll be at the Double Wide Flea Market in Dallas with a table full of vintage film cameras, lenses, and accessories. If you’ve been curious about getting into film photography — or just want to dig through some fun old gear — come say hello.

This is also the beginning of a new chapter for us. Along with cameras and accessories, we’ll begin offering on-location lessons and small workshops for people who want to learn film photography hands-on.

More soon. For now, we’re excited to get back out there. Also, our website is updated a bit!

We’re closing our space at 231 S. College on Nov. 30 — but Piney Woods Darkroom isn’t done! 🌞

We’ll be back in 2026 with pop-up classes, school visits, and community workshops.
Stay tuned for flash sales on extra equipment and furniture (great chance to snag some cool analog gear!) and opportunities to book us for pop-up workshops in your community.

Thank you for helping us keep film alive in East Texas — this is just the next chapter. 💛

After extensive planning, developing, scanning, converting, and re-organization, we are reopening film development services at Piney Woods Darkroom. When we opened in early 2024, we knew there would be some demand for film development. We were not incorrect. In fact, we were overwhelmed by the response. PWD is an educational nonprofit organization, providing access to and instruction in traditional analog, photographic equipment and techniques. The film development service by design is a secondary service. However, you let us know that the demand is *very* high in East Texas. This is good news, though we are not completely equipped for the level of demand. Each roll of film is hand-developed and processed, involving very little automation. While the results of our scans and development are high in quality, the speed can only improve so much without additional automation. Equipment exists which could help this, but at great cost. We do not want to use older machines from mini labs because of extreme expense and upkeep demands. makes a phenomenal automatic film scanner that we could use, but as a micro budget nonprofit, we currently cannot afford it. Your donations and business can help change that, but until then we will need 2-3 weeks to complete orders. additionally, more expensive materials also means we need to raise the price of development to $14 per roll. PWD is open by appointment only, so please message us and we can arrange a visit, a class, or a day pass. The film drop in the front door is available 24/7. Thank you for your patience as we adjust in response to our first year of business. We have been thrilled with your response and support, and we hope to make 2025 truly memorable and full of analog goodness.

After a much-needed break, Piney Woods Darkroom is reopening March 4—and we couldn’t be more grateful to celebrate our first incredible year with you!

In just 12 months, we:
📸 Sold hundreds of rolls of film & dozens of cameras
🎞️ Taught multiple classes & welcomed countless visitors
🖤 Developed 1,000+ rolls—far beyond our wildest expectations!

But with our micro-budget & volunteer-driven model, the sheer demand for film processing outgrew our current capacity. Until we can secure funding for better equipment, we’re pausing film development services—but don’t worry, we’ll be back soon with a new plan!

To create a sustainable balance, we’re also adjusting hours:
⏰ Thurs-Sat: 12:30-5 PM
📲 Sun-Wed: Hours announced via Instagram Stories

From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for making this dream a reality. Here’s to another year of sharing the magic of analog photography! 🎞️💛

UPDATE: We will now meet AT the darkroom to begin the walk due to a large event taking place Downtown. Show up a bit earlier to make sure you can get a parking spot if you can. Otherwise, it’s Grand Opening time!! We’ll take a photo walk amid the busy Downtown area as the Red Dirt Festival kicks into action (after we’ll be wrapped), then see YOUR new community darkroom, place to buy film, place to buy film cameras, and place to learn about how to do all of it! Can’t wait to see you there.

A mini update!

A mini update!

That says it all … we are kind of open! I mean, we are actually open, but we often have to leave the shop to take care of things and pick up things, so it is definitely best to message us on IG to make sure someone is around. But … it’s real! You can buy film, buy cameras, and YOU CAN USE THE ...
