Daylight Saving Time begins today, March 8. Research consistently shows a 6% spike in fatal traffic accidents during the week immediately following the spring time change - a direct result of sleep disruption affecting millions of drivers simultaneously.

For law enforcement professionals, that statistic isn't abstract. It shows up in the calls you run, the scenes you work, and the reports you write. As you head into the week, exercise heightened caution on the roads. The clocks moved one hour, but the risks moved considerably more.

Happy Birthday to the United States Navy Reserve.

Since its establishment, the Navy Reserve has answered the call in every major conflict — with reservists making up a staggering 84% of the entire Navy force at the end of World War II. Today, nearly 60,000 Selected Reserve personnel carry that legacy forward, maintaining mission-ready status while serving their home communities in uniform.

Many of our own members know this commitment firsthand - balancing shifts, court dates, and community duties with federal deployments across the globe. That's not one job. That's a calling times two.

To every law enforcement professional who also wears the Navy Reserve anchor - we see you, we honor you, and we thank you.

On December 7, 2025, our officers responded to the 2600 block of E. 5th St. following a crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. The suspect vehicle left the scene.

The bicyclist, identified as 19-year-old Lofton Williams of Argyle, Texas, was transported to a local hospital where he later passed away from injuries sustained in the crash.

Through diligent investigative work, Tyler Police detectives identified the suspect as Andrea Tanner, 39, of Tyler. A warrant for Collision Involving Personal Injury or Death (2nd Degree Felony) was issued with a $250,000 bond.

On February 23, 2025, the suspect was located and arrested. The case will now be forwarded to the Smith County District Attorney’s Office.

Our officers and detectives remain committed to thoroughly investigating serious incidents and ensuring accountability. We extend our continued condolences to the family and loved ones of Mr. Williams.

At approximately 2:46 AM on January 29th, our officers responded to a vehicle crash on Chandler Hwy that ruptured a major natural gas pipeline.

With gas rapidly venting into the area and oxygen levels being displaced, officers immediately began issuing evacuation notifications and going door-to-door to wake residents — many of whom were asleep and unaware of the danger.

Our officers assisted elderly and less ambulatory citizens, established a safe rally point, and maintained scene security — all while spending limited time in affected areas due to the hazardous conditions and risk of ignition.

This response is an outstanding example of teamwork, courage, and selfless dedication to the citizens of Tyler. We are proud of the professionalism displayed by every officer involved.

Please join us in recognizing their commitment to protecting our community.

The Tyler Patrolman’s Association is proud to formally endorse Councilman Stuart Hene for Mayor of the City of Tyler.

Councilman Hene has consistently demonstrated strong leadership, a commitment to public safety, and a clear understanding of the responsibilities carried by those who serve our community. He has taken the time to engage directly with law enforcement and thoughtfully consider the long-term needs of our growing city, especially as potential funding challenges from the Texas Legislature may impact municipalities statewide.

As Tyler continues to expand, steady leadership, fiscal responsibility, and strategic investment in public safety are critical. We believe Stuart Hene has the experience, integrity, and vision to guide Tyler forward.

We stand in support of Stuart Hene for Mayor and encourage our community to support leadership that prioritizes public safety and the continued success of our city.

Presidents’ Day is more than a long weekend - it’s a reminder that leadership, sacrifice, and service help define our nation.

Did you know? This was the first federal holiday created to honor an individual’s birth date - originally celebrating George Washington on February 22 before moving to the third Monday in February.

Today we take a moment to reflect on those ideals of leadership and responsibility that continue to guide communities across the country.

Wishing everyone a safe Presidents’ Day from all of us.

This Valentine’s Day, we’re thinking about the families who share their hearts with those who serve.

Behind every badge is someone who answers late night calls, missed holidays, and long shifts - and behind them is a partner, spouse, family member, or friend who stands strong right alongside them.

Did you know there are more than 750,000 sworn law enforcement professionals serving communities across the United States? That’s hundreds of thousands of families sharing in the sacrifices that service requires.

Today we celebrate not only those who protect and serve, but also the people who wait safely at home and keep the heart of this profession strong.

Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us.

When officers noticed a vehicle backed into the driveway of an abandoned building on Border, they didn’t just drive by.

A quick investigation revealed the male on scene had stolen items from the building. He claimed to have permission but one of our officers knew the property owner and called her directly. She confirmed he did not have permission and wished to pursue charges.

The male was arrested and booked into jail for burglary of a building.

Just another example of how knowledge of our community, and attention to detail helps keep Tyler safe.

Our officers work quickly and professionally to resolve dangerous situations — often in real time.

Today, officers responded to a reported road rage incident near Forest & N Glenwood. A caller reported that a male driver pointed a handgun at him and provided a detailed description of the suspect and weapon.

Officers located the vehicle towing a boat and safely conducted a felony stop. The suspect was detained without further incident, and a handgun matching the victim’s description was recovered.

The driver was arrested for aggravated assault.
