📢Check out the King's College Mass Casualty Incident Simulation - and they made the local news. 📢

Not only was it health professions students and area practitioners, it also included campus and city law enforcement, healthcare administration, criminal justice, social work, and local health system executives. The AT students were the first responders and those that met the victims at the entrance of the ER. They also utilized our theater students as the actors/actresses for an interdisciplinary event.

📢In 2016, the National Academies of Practice (NAP) proclaimed April as National Interprofessional Healthcare Month to highlight that quality, safe, and effective care is achieved through collaborative, multidisciplinary teams. The proclamation emphasizes that diverse expertise improves health outcomes and that care begins with prevention.

Key Points of the Proclamation:

✏️Collaborative Care: Quality healthcare is provided by teams of professionals from multiple disciplines working together.

✏️Diverse Expertise: The complexity of modern health demands the combined knowledge and skills of various healthcare professionals.

✏️Focus on Prevention: Primary care starts with health promotion, wellness, and disease prevention.

✏️Improved Outcomes: Interprofessional collaboration strengthens health systems, enhances safety, and improves patient-centered care.

The NAP continues to honor this initiative by promoting awareness of interprofessional practice, research, and policy throughout April.

Kicking off IPE Month with a feature from Duquesne University. The IPEC, including NAP AT, OT, and Nursing members, hosted the annual Grand Rounds Workshop - students from all healthcare programs and a patient from the community came together to learn with, from, and about each other.

Students from the Department of Health Professions and College of Health and Behavioral Studies at James Madison University participated in the 7th Annual IPE Case Study on March 7, 2026. The purpose of this interprofessional learning activity is for students to learn about the roles and responsibilities of each profession through communicating as a team and prioritizing the care for a shared patient.

Students are assigned to a specific table, ensuring representation of each healthcare discipline (Athletic Training, Dietetics, Health Services Administration, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Nursing, Social Work, Speech-Language Pathology).

Facilitators guide students in exploring each's roles and responsibilities as they progress through a patient SimNovation, a simulation modality that progresses through a series of pre-recorded simulations.

Big transitions for the AT Academy! 💙💛

Yesterday we celebrated Dr. Sarah Manspeaker for her incredible service as the AT Academy Chair. This morning, our new Executive Committee hit the ground running to support and elevate AT and IPE.

Thrilled to be moving ahead with leaders like Laura Kunkel (Chair), Rachel Johnson Krug (Chair‑Elect), and Chris O’Brien (Secretary/Treasurer)! 🚀

The evidence continues to validate the important IPE work happening within the AT Academy, and we couldn’t be prouder of our members who represented Athletic Training through multiple poster presentations.

We also had the opportunity to learn from the Mental Health and Well‑Being Subcommittee of the IPCC, co‑chaired by Mark Stutz, as they shared initial findings from their ongoing work.

📢Exciting momentum for AT, IPE, and collaborative practice📢
