🐒🌊 Sea Turtle Nesting Season is Here! 🌊🐒

From May 1 through October 31, Tybee's beaches serve as an important nesting habitat for endangered sea turtles. During this time, we all play a role in protecting these incredible animals. πŸοΈπŸ’š

Help keep our beaches turtle-friendly:
πŸ’‘ Turn off or shield beachfront lights at night
πŸŒ‘ Keep beaches dark, flat, and quiet
πŸ–οΈ Fill in holes and knock down sandcastles before leaving
πŸͺ‘ Remove tents, chairs, and beach gear each evening
πŸ₯š If you spot a sea turtle, tracks, or a nest, please leave it undisturbed and notify local volunteers.

Many visitors are unaware of simple sea turtle-friendly habitsβ€”help spread the word and protect Tybee's nesting turtles! 🐒✨

Together, we can help ensure sea turtles continue returning to Tybee's shores for generations to come. πŸ’™πŸ’

It's time to start repeating this: CLEAN, DARK and FLAT!

It's time to start repeating this: CLEAN, DARK and FLAT!

Keeping the beach clean, dark, and flat is essential for the survival of sea turtles, both for nesting females and their hatchlings. Removing trash and beach gear (chairs, umbrellas, toys) prevents entanglement and ensures a clear path for turtles. Artificial lighting from buildings, flashlights, and phones disorients both hatchlings and nesting females. Keeping lights off or using turtle-friendly amber or red lighting is critical. Holes dug by beachgoers and large sandcastles create dangerous obstacles for nesting females and hatchlings.

Will you say ?

Today, Tybee Island is joining American Coastal Coalition members across the country to launch the 2026 campaign, to demonstrate public support for America's beaches.

Coastal communities deserve a unified voice. 129 million Americans live within 50 miles of the coast. Our beaches protect communities from storms, power local economies and ecosystems, and belong to all of us.

All summer long, we're making sure Congress hears us loud and clear. We will be campaigning around the issues that matter most: economic & environmental impact, storm protection, community highlights, and direct calls to action for you and our representatives in Congress.

Love your beach? Help us save the shore. Find more info American Coastal Coalition or at www.americancoastalcoalition.org/yestobeaches2026.
