On this Day we wish a VERY happy 40th Birthday to the Superior Hiking Trail Association's fave trail!

We've long heard it said that trail people are trail people are trail people. We think that is so true... one of the idea makers of the Superior Hiking Trail, Tom Peterson, was also an avid supporter of the Gitchi-Gami State Trail and served on many board roles of the our nonprofit board, too!

Today we'll get out on some dirt trails marked with blue blazes and thank Tom and all who joined him then and through these 40 years to provide the gift of the Superior Hiking Trail to all of us!

And we love when we hear that folks use the Gitchi-Gami to support their hikes on the S*T, too. Lotsa folks find great ways to do some loops with our "parallel" trails!

Yesterday the Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation board met and approved a grant that will help extend the trail into the downtown area of Lutsen!!

The GGTA worked with many partners and local units of government and with Sen. Hauschild and Rep. Skraba to support appropriations to 3 trail projects during the legislative session in the bonding bill. While the funds we were supporting did not make it into the final bonding bill, our delegation supported funds for one of the 3 projects through IRR funding. These funds will be vital to improving connectivity and safety for trail users!

Big thanks to Rep. Skraba, Sen. Hauschild, the Lutsen Town Board, Cook Co. Board, Cook Co. Chamber and so many more for supporting this effort! Thanks to Bruce, Chris, Bob and Joe, GGTA board members who work on our legislative committee for their work this year advocating for future trail projects!

Onward!

The Gitchi-Gami State Trail has secured a $550,000 funding package for work in Lutsen Township, according to local legislators. The investment through the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB) will fund construction of a bridge over the creek along Paradise Park Road and paving of th...
