Memorial Day is fast approaching. There will be many Memorial Day sales flooding the media with special deals you just can’t miss. There will be parties with fun games and there will be barbecues with friends and families.

But there is much more to Memorial Day than that.

There will also be ceremonies and events across the nation as we remember and honor those who paid the ultimate price during our country’s time of war. There will be American Flags, flowers and wreaths placed at Veteran headstones in cemeteries near and far. There will be tears.

This is a time for all of us to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy today and the heros and loved ones who made it all possible.

The Honor Guard of Post 109 will hold three ceremonies on Monday May 30th.

We will be at the Edna G dock at 11:00 am to place rose peddles in the water to honor all of those who lost their lives at sea while defending our country.

Next there will be a wreath laying ceremony at Two Harbors Lakeview Cemetery.

Then we will travel up the North Shore to the Minnesota Veterans Home at Silver Bay for a short ceremony.

Please join us as we honor those men and women who died in service to our country.

Open House - Vietnam War Commemoration

On April 23, 2022, from 10am to 4pm your American Legion Post 109 will be recognizing all Lake County and Cook County Veterans of the Vietnam War, including personnel who were held as prisoners of war, or listed as missing in action, for their service and sacrifice and to thank and honor the families of these Veterans. If you or a family member served between November 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, then please join us.

Our kitchen will be open from 10am to 5pm. If you are a Vietnam Veteran, then we want to buy you brunch or lunch and say "Thank You!"

During the day we will have in country maps, displays, informational tables, free soft drinks for everyone plus give-a-ways. We even plan to have background music from the era.

The event is open to the public.

Our Post has partnered with Lovin’ Lake County for the event and we thank them for their support.

I am reaching out to all Vietnam Era Veterans in Lake and Cook Counties of Northern Minnesota...
The American Legion Post 109 in Two Harbors is pleased to announce it has just become a Commemorative Partner with The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration.

We will now join in with many other organizations across the Nation in an annual event in recognition of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. These annual events will continue through November 11, 2025. Normally held on March 29th, the actual date that our involvement in Vietnam ended, we will hold our first “Open House” this year on April 23rd from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Post.

This open house will be available to all Veterans who served “in country”, or who are “Vietnam Era” Veterans who served from 11/1/1955 to 5/15/1975, regardless of their duty station. The families of these veterans are also invited as we recognize and honor their service to our country. This is a work in process, so please stay tuned.
