Happy National Forest Week || May 31st - June 6th
Washington State is home to five unique National Forests that protect everything from active volcanoes to snow-capped jagged peaks
While our National Parks get plenty of fame, these public lands offer millions of acres of wild, rugged backyard to explore
Here are a few quick facts about our local National Forests to share on your next adventure:
Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest holds more glaciers and snow fields than any other national forest outside of Alaska - Mount Baker Ski Area even holds the world record for snowfall in a single season at 1,140 inches!
Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest is an absolute giant, spanning a massive 3.2 million acres down the eastern slopes of the Cascades, making it the sixth-largest national forest in the United States
Gifford Pinchot National Forest is one of the oldest in the country and includes the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, completely reshaped by the historic 1980 eruption
Colville National Forest sits in the far northeast corner of the state, where the landscape was carved out by Ice Age glaciers 10,000 years ago
Olympic National Forest wraps right around Olympic National Park, shifting from sea-level saltwater fjords up to high mountain ridges.
