Looking forward to a new walking and cycling trail!
We are excited to report that the Cleveland Metroparks and the City of Solon are nearing completion of design and will be beginning construction of the Solon to Chagrin Falls Trail this month. The Solon to Chagrin Falls Trail is a new accessible 10’ wide paved all-purpose trail that will ultimately connect to the existing Cleveland Metroparks trail at Chagrin River Road that runs north east to Chagrin Falls.
The trail will begin at SOM Center Road and will run along the former Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad Company corridor, which is owned by the City of Solon, to the City boundary near the Deer Run cul-de-sac. The trail will include a trailhead off SOM Center Road and an enhanced bicycle and pedestrian crossing at Liberty Road. The project is funded by state grants of nearly $1.2 million along with funding from the City of Solon. The trail will be owned by the City of Solon and managed by Cleveland Metroparks.
As a separate phase, Cleveland Metroparks has committed to complete the remaining 1500’ section from the Solon City boundary to Chagrin River Road within one year of completion of the Solon phase. This trail section will be built entirely on land already owned by Cleveland Metroparks and will complete the overall Solon to Chagrin Falls project.
Clearing of trees and brush on city property to enable trail construction will occur between March 5 and March 15. Construction of the trail will continue this spring through the spring of 2025. In the coming weeks you may see crew members working in the trail area from the City of Solon, Cleveland Metroparks, and their consulting and contracting partners including prime contractor Nerone & Sons, Inc. and lead designer Michael Baker International.
We ask for your patience as work begins on the trail and hope that you will enjoy it when complete. Project information can be found at www.clevelandmetroparks.com/planning under the Solon to Chagrin Falls Trail project heading.
