This is a photo showing two railroads with stations at the Mount Pleasant House around 1900. The top station is the Maine Central RR. The lower station is the Boston Concord and Montreal RR. The smoke is rising from a steam engine heading west towards the Fabyan House in the distance.

The society has some extraordinary items. Here is the original basement floor plan of the Mount Washington Hotel. Notice where the Cave is now, was once the Squash Courts. Also, there were two bowling lanes, plus a barber shop, manicure room and a stockbroker's room. Check out the amenities the hotel offered.

This is very early photo of the hotel. Best guess is that it was taken between 1902 and 1906. It was taken before the Bretton Arms was enlarged (1906). Please note the plowed fields (gardens) in the foreground. In the early days the hotel grew much of the food for the guests. They also raised approximately 1000 sheep for grazing on the golf course and food for the staff and guests.

Here is a picture of the Mount Washington Hotel during construction in 1901. Note the derrick used to lift the heavy stones and place them on the rising walls, the wooden barrels supporting the scaffolding for the workers, and the wooden frames where future windows will be placed. In the background is Crawford Notch.

This is a photo of the Elmwood Hall. It was an Inn and restaurant located near where the Streams of Living Warter Campground sits today on Route 302. This picture was taken in June of 1935. Mike Fagan of Clarksdale, AZ. discovered it at an estate sale and sent it to us. Thanks Mike for thinking of us and saving this gem!

For all you Coggers out there, here is one for you. A 1915 postcard of Cold Spring Hill tanks along the Cog RR. This stop was necessary to add water for the steam engine. This stop was later renamed Waumbek.

The Twin Mountain town hall about 1998. Before that it served as the Twin Mt. school from 1898 to 1968.
