Union Update!
This weekend your union representatives had a meeting with the CEO of the MCC. It was a quite productive hour and a half, and we wanted to inform you of what went down in broad strokes. If you want to know more of a play by play or get a personal feel, reach out to one of us or this page and we would be happy to chat.
A great deal of the derision power rests no so much in the MCC staff, but in the volunteer board. While this is not excuse for poor decisions and implementation, it does mean they will be involved in the process going forward. The unions demands and notes the professionals took from the meeting will be given directly to the board.
However, the board only meets 5 times a year and not during the summer. We will be talking with some members ourselves, but as staff we should discuss if we are content waiting for the next season(and losing leverage) or being more aggressive in our demands. That's a question we should put to a vote.
While a lot of power does rest in the board, not all does. Don Shepard is looking into and seemed quite concerned about being unpaid for mandatory training, and was supportive of setting pays more openly(eg 1st year area directors all make X). He was also willing to be transparent about the budget and the MCC will be going to camp at some point to present the entire MCC budget and how Ge**er fits into it all. Any questions or notes of something that looks odd can be seen there.
In general you may see more interaction with MCC higher ups, and more open communication. Communication improvement was the big thing we ran into at the meeting, and was something he will be working to address.
For now, what we will be working on is union cards, meeting with the MCC board, and deciding if the board is more of a stall tactic or a legitimate administrative barrier to worry about. Some of that will come from how the budget meeting and the first few weeks of camp go.
Have a great week!
