These losses could mean no more due process, no more voice, no more middle class. Regardless of which union is under attack, all of us are harmed. Magic Valley unions are organizing a coalition to work together to turn this around, prevent the losses and strengthen what we already have. One of our goals is to change how we are viewed by the public. People have bought into the union stereotype they
’ve seen on TV. They don’t see us as their neighbors; the nice guy who delivers their mail or the package they sent to their daughter who’s halfway across the world; the firefighter and police officers who come with sirens blaring when they need help; the teacher who taught their child to read; the people who make the food they bring to their table and the electricians who bring them power to cook it. We also need to reeducate our own members about what it means to be a union. What it means to organize for a cause. What it means to be strong. Unions are at the heart of the American dream. It is the work we do that has helped our country run and it is the money we’ve spent as the middle class that has made our economy strong. We are the people who made America a good place to work and live. Our founding fathers understood the necessity to organize. They met in small groups to tell their stories and build their strength. Their first collective action was the Boston Tea Party. That perfect union they built became our country.
