IVC provides FREE volunteer transportation along with minor home safety modification (wheelchair ramps, handrails & grab bars) services to the elderly, disabled, and chronically ill individuals to live independently in their own homes. IVC’s clients receive "Access to Healthcare" and other essential services while "Giving the Gift of Home,” so they can live independently, and safely in the comfort
of their home. IVC’s project consists of two parts – transportation and home safety modifications.
• Part 1 - The “Access to Healthcare” transportation program, (FREE door through door), provides low-income, elderly, disabled and chronically ill citizens of the eight-county service area rides to cancer treatments, dialysis, medical specialists, specialized testing as well as routine medical care. Along with medical transportation comes essential errands to the pharmacy and grocery store, without which many of those served could not maintain their independent living status. The need for transportation assistance is a primary barrier for those needing “Access to Healthcare” and other essential errands. Deferred healthcare becomes very expensive to the community at large.
• Part 2 - IVC’s home safety modification program helps low-income elderly, disabled and chronically ill citizens by installing wheelchair ramps, handrails & grab bar modifications for seniors. Studies indicate that home modifications help support the participants’ ability to age in place at home while making them more confident to live alone. Home modifications improve participants’ safety, accessibility, privacy, and occupational performance, especially in performing self-care activities. Our programs are designed to help those who need the services the most but don't qualify for any other programs or resources. Other agencies cannot provide this FREE “Access to Healthcare”, which makes IVC’s services unique since no client is ever required to pay for services – unlike other transportation and home safety modification choices.
