Since 2019, the Hi-Desert 29ers have been dedicated to serving the Morongo Basin through its community initiative.
We are officially 100% Federal and State Tax Exempt.
Our primary objective was to establish a football team that would provide an opportunity for individuals within the community to enhance their football skills and aspire to reach the next level. This team was created to be inclusive and accessible to all members of the community.
Our second initiative involved the establishment of a resource service that offered various services, including fundraising for families through the farmers market, assisting local businesses with relocations, and providing relief services during the devastating flash floods that struck the Morongo Basin. We were able to assist over 27+ residents with flood prevention and other essential needs.
The Twentynine Palms 29 organization collaborates with numerous organizations that share the same initiative, including the Hi-Desert 29ers Community Football Team, Boo2Bullying, Top-Tier Flag Football, and the Big 3 Basketball League.
Our third initiative was the establishment of a community resource center that would provide opportunities for individuals to engage in various sports and activities, such as flag football, softball, tackle football, youth wrestling, dodgeball, and kickball.
Furthermore, our nonprofit organization provides lunch leadership classes, mentored by our life coach, Shaka Gray. Since 2019, Gray has been instrumental in enriching the lives of individuals within our community. We emphasize the significance of community engagement and community events, as one of our players was a victim of gun violence in our community due to a car robbery that went awry.
Our fourth initiative is the construction of a community food bank, which will provide essential resources to the community. This project has been a long-term endeavor, and we anticipate its completion within the near future.
Our fifth community initiative is the establishment of a community living center that will provide support and resources to local unhoused individuals. These individuals are transitioning from lifestyles in other cities in search of a better quality of life.
The new-created facility will serve as a comprehensive resource, offering a six-month short-term living program that will assist individuals in securing employment through Gray & Gray Unlimited, providing educational and skill-building classes, and fostering a supportive environment for personal growth and well-being. The program will equip individuals with the necessary skills to lead fulfilling and independent lives.
This facility will contribute to the eradication of the drug problem within the Morongo Basin community by providing a detoxification and sober living program that offers individuals an opportunity to reintegrate into society. Additionally, the facility will house the Hi-Desert 29ers Training Facility and Home Field.
As a former impoverished child in the 1990s who relied on paper food stamps, endured lengthy waiting hours in soup kitchen lines, and subsequently experienced foster care for the duration of my childhood, I am acutely aware of the paramount importance of such organizations, particularly those that are non-profit and dedicated to enhancing the well-being of the community.
