Splitting the log was a success! 40 minutes and one hammer handle latter we had the log in 2. We’ll split the halves into quarters this Saturday and then a larger log at the end of the season.

Ever wonder how Vikings made the planks for their longships? Come to the village at 1:30 this Sunday to see us start the process by splitting this log with wooden wedges and a big hammer.

Two fabulous weeks completed with our three day weekend coming up. Come see our new Ve and listen to some stories from the Eddas and Sagas. Check out our box forge and see what the blacksmiths are making. Learn how the Vikings would have made fire. Visit our weavers and watch them spin thread and weave cloth. And check out our spring pole lathe and watch us make bowls from a log.

On site preparation for the 2025 season started today. A lot of work was accomplished in thankfully cooler weather than forecasted. We did have some new friends come say hello.
