We're so proud of our very own Kimora Tyler! πŸ‘

Understanding the importance of literacy skills for Tutwiler's youth, our administrative coordinator, Kimora, recently earned her certification in the science-based, research-backed Reading Simplified literacy instruction approach. It helps all students, especially those struggling with reading, writing, and spelling.

Kimora was passionate about pursuing this intensive training because she believes every child in the Mississippi Delta deserves equal access to the knowledge and skills of reading fluency. Her certification means TCEC can offer specialized literacy tutoring and small group instruction using these evidence-based best practices.

Way to go, Kimora! Her drive and initiative will give even more Delta students the building blocks needed to become successful, lifelong learners. TCEC is lucky to have devoted educators like Kimora who work hard to create brighter futures for Tutwiler's amazing kids! πŸ’› We're a small but mighty team :-) - Hans

Geography, Latin, Literature, Archaeology, Egyptology, History. Here are more photos from this past Saturday's Classics workshop with Ole Miss. The kind of critical thinking and emotional intelligence these studies provide will help students be competitive in a world where wealth is concentrated in fewer hands and increasingly dominated by technology.
I appreciate Dr. Molly Pasco-Pranger and the staff and students at Ole Miss for helping make this possible. Thank you, too, to the parents and students who want to have a say in their futures. The next session is in March. Come join us.

This is an exciting and essential initiative! Thanks to those working with us to bring these children what they need. The kinds of things we're bringing here are the tools and resources taken for granted in wealthier communities.

Just sharing on a Monday. I'm doing a life review with a 66th birthday coming up, and I also thought some of you might be interested in where I've been.

This is the Essence Awards from 2001. A lot of interesting people here. My brother and I are at roughly 26:30 in the video. Warning: We're being introduced by Diddy.

β€˜Missing You’, a song from the motion picture SET IT OFF performed by Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan and Jennifer Holliday.

🌟 Big News for Tutwiler's Young People! 🌟 Ages 10-18
Three sessions here, then a field trip to Ole Miss on April 20th
Call or DM if interested.
Hey everyone! We've got something cool coming our way from the University of Mississippi. They're bringing a Classics Program right here for us!

So, what's so cool about the Classics? It's all about exploring the ancient worlds of Greece and Rome. But it's not just old stories and myths. These tales teach us about bravery, cleverness, and right and wrong. They help us think better, understand new ideas, and learn lessons that can help us today.

This program is like a time machine that takes us back to learn from the past. It's exciting to discover how people thought and lived long ago and use that knowledge to help us with today's problems. Plus, it's a chance to see how these old stories can inspire us to dream big and do great things.

You can learn a lot from these ancient stories and use them to do amazing stuff in the future. This is your invitation to start an adventure, learn cool things about the past, and use it to make your mark on the world.

Get ready to join this fun journey into history and uncover secrets that will make our lives and our community better. Let's show everyone what the young people of Tutwiler can do!

πŸ“’ Urgent Call for Educational Revolution - Tutwiler's Upcoming Microschool πŸ“’

I have a more than 30-year career starting and running award-winning independent schools. More than a century ago, John Dewey said, "What the wisest and best parent wants for their child is what we should want for all the children of the community." I'm a father of four (three adults and one in high school). I was able to provide them with a tremendous educational advantage through my contacts and experience.

I would be negligent and arrogant if, coming down from NYC, I kept my eyes closed to the lack of opportunity for too many children here. The lack of opportunity and less productive learning environments is not my opinion; the statistics show it.

This National School Choice Week, we at Tutwiler Community Education Center stand on the cusp of a groundbreaking educational venture. Our vision is to establish a microschool, a pioneering educational model that promises to reshape the Mississippi Delta's learning landscape. This isn't just a new school; it's a beacon of hope, a commitment to our children's future, and a direct response to the urgent need for educational innovation.

[WE WILL BE STARTING WITH ONLY 15 STUDENTS. IF YOU'RE AN INTERESTED PARENT, CONTACT ME (Hans), Kimora Tyler, OR Alicia Hill.]

🏫 **The Microschool Vision: Reimagining Education** 🌟

Imagine a learning environment where the traditional barriers of education are dismantled. Our proposed microschool, inspired by the classic one-room schoolhouse and Mississippi Freedom Schools, is a small but powerful embodiment of this vision. Every child will experience a customized education tailored to their unique strengths, interests, and dreams.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ **Individualized, Experiential Learning: A Personal Journey** πŸš€

We recognize that each child's path to success is different. Our curriculum will be deeply individualized, focusing on experiential and project-based learning. It's not just about textbooks; it's about real-life applications, critical thinking, and solving real-world problems.

🌐 **Integrating Delta's Heritage with Future Technologies** πŸ€–

Our microschool will be a place where the rich cultural tapestry of the Delta meets the future. We'll integrate local history, arts, and traditions, such as quilting, blues music, and civil rights history, with cutting-edge subjects like robotics, virtual reality, and drone technology. This unique blend ensures our students are well-grounded in their heritage and fully equipped for the technological advancements of tomorrow.

🚫 **Zero Tolerance for Bullying: A Safe and Empowering Space** πŸ›‘οΈ

We emphasize creating a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment in this urgent push for change. Bullying has no place in our vision. Every student will feel secure, respected, and valued, laying the foundation for authentic learning and personal growth.

πŸ“˜ **Science-Based Literacy and Personal Agency** πŸ”

Our approach to literacy will be rooted in the latest scientific research, ensuring foundational skills are solidly built. Moreover, we'll foster personal agency, guiding students to discover and articulate their life's purpose, echoing Martin Luther King Jr.'s profound inquiry.

πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“ **Portrait of a Graduate: Cultivating Lifelong Learners** 🌱

The "Portrait of a Graduate" from our microschool is not just about academic achievement; it's about nurturing well-rounded, resilient, and self-aware individuals. Our graduates will be prepared to face life's challenges with confidence and a deep understanding of their role in the world.

🀝 **A Laboratory for Learning: Influencing Broader Educational Change** 🌍

Our microschool is more than a local initiative; it's a model for educational excellence. We aim to inspire and inform, as a laboratory where other schools can learn and adapt from our successes and challenges.

This National School Choice Week, we're not just announcing a new school; we're igniting a movement. Join us in this vital mission to transform education and empower our children to carve out a future filled with purpose and promise.

🌟 Together, we can create a legacy of learning that will echo through generations. 🌟
