Strong Women of the Southeastern Region – Women’s History Month Series
Today, the Southeastern Region of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. proudly honors Past Regional Director Ruth Ballard (1961–1965) of the Jack and Jill of America, Inc. - Tuskegee Chapter—a trailblazing leader whose legacy reflects creativity, education, and visionary leadership.
As a charter member of the Tuskegee Chapter, PRD Ruth encouraged mothers to embrace creativity and skill-building through cooking, sewing, and painting.
During her tenure as the 2nd Regional Director, she:
✨ Presided over the 5th–9th Teen Leadership Conferences
✨ Led the region during the 15th National Convention (Minneapolis, MN) with a focus on mental health as a national initiative
✨ Helped install the Greater Fort Lauderdale, Manatee County, and Miami Chapters—expanding the organization’s footprint
PRD Ruth dedicated her life to service through both education and healthcare. She spent years as an Educator in Virginia Public Schools and at Tuskegee University. She also spent time as an Occupational Therapist, John A. Andrew Hospital (Tuskegee, AL). She was a graduate of Virginia State University and earned advanced degrees at numerous universities.
She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and served as a Past Alumnae Chapter President.
PRD Ruth Ballard’s life reflects a powerful commitment to education, creativity, leadership, and community uplift—leaving a legacy that continues to inspire generations.
