We will have a boot camp for girls auditioning for Helen Keller on Sunday, March 9th from 1-4pm. At this camp, participants will work with former Helens, Lillie Meyer and Cecilia Gooch, as well as Anna Kelley, who will return as Annie Sullivan this season. The purpose of this camp is to prepare participants for auditions. Attendance at the boot camp is not required to audition, but it is highly encouraged.

For the role of Helen Keller, we are looking for a girl between the ages of 7-11 who is under 54 inches tall (4’6”). To prepare for the boot camp, practice experiencing the world as though you are deaf and blind. Explore rooms and objects using your hands, practice using your face and body to communicate what you are feeling, and practice being wild and tough. We ask that you wear long pants to the boot camp and bring knee pads if you have them.

The 64th Annual Production of The Miracle Worker will be performed at Ivy Green in Tuscumbia, Alabama on Friday and Saturday nights from June 6-28 and July 11-19.

Camp Courage, A Helen Keller Experience, is a 3-day program for rising 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students who have visual and/or hearing impairments. Camp is held on the grounds of Ivy Green, Helen Keller’s home. Campers experience arts, crafts, music, drama, field trips, and discussions of Keller’s life and work. All activities are designed to inspire campers to develop a greater confidence in their abilities and to form lifelong connections with other students. This experience is free for campers and their families, made possible by donations from the City of Tuscumbia, the University of North Alabama, and many individuals.

The COEHS is a proud sponsor of Camp Courage and we are honored our preservice teachers enjoy volunteer opportunities each year!
