Tuscaloosa Rocketry Challenge

Tuscaloosa Rocketry Challenge University of Alabama students teaching the importance of space exploration & by building water-prop

Hosted by the UA SEDS Chapter: Alabama Space Alliance
Sponsored by: Alabama Rocketry Association, UA SOURCE, and the University of Alabama Honors College

The Tuscaloosa Rocketry Challenge consists of four parts: teaching, building, testing, and the county-wide competition. First, we present a short series of lectures on the importance of space exploration, and on the simple function of rockets. S

econd, we build water-propelled rockets using recycled materials. Third, we have the school competition to test the students' rocket designs. Last, we will host the county-wide contest between the top three rockets from each participating school. This program is unique in the way that we bring the learning experience to YOU. Alabama School Systems lack the opportunity for middle schoolers to participate in hands-on, learning-by-doing activities, and we are here to change that. The Tuscaloosa Rocketry Challenge is more than just a competition. This experience exposes Tuscaloosa middle schoolers to the wonders of space exploration, and the excitement of forming an idea, physically creating it, giving their invention a purpose, and testing it's capabilities. Through this program, our students gain a respect for the engineering profession, cultivate their creativity, test their problem-solving abilities, learn to question anything and everything, and above all these students are reminded that they can create and be anything that they can imagine.
