MISSION MOMENT: Meet Asher! 💙

Sometimes the biggest milestones come in the smallest moments: a new friendship, growing confidence, and finding a place to belong.

At today's Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama Board Meeting, we heard from Gabby, proud mom of 6-year-old Asher, about the difference the Club has made for their family.

Asher is smart, loving, energetic, and full of personality! As a child with autism, he deserves a place where he feels safe, accepted, and encouraged to thrive.

As a working mom, Gabby was looking for reliable childcare and a place where Asher would be understood and cared for. What she found was so much more. Since joining the Club, Asher has become more outgoing, built friendships, and grown more comfortable interacting with other children.

And the best part? Asher loves the Club so much that he'd rather come here than go to school! 😂💙 Gabby says she regularly reminds him that school comes FIRST, and THEN he gets to come to the Club!

As Gabby shared, "You aren’t just providing a place for children to go. You’re helping shape who they become."

Stories like Asher's remind us that Great Futures look different for every child. Sometimes, success is a new friendship, growing confidence, or a little boy who can't wait to get to his Club.

Our teens aren’t just talking about change. They’re creating it! 💙💚

This summer, our Club teens traveled to Washington, D.C., through their Think, Learn, Create Change (TLC) initiative, where they advocated for issues that matter to them. Last year, they championed mental health awareness. This year, their focus is supporting single-parent families.

This past Friday, they brought that mission to life with a Community Career Fair at our Jaycee Park Club!

A huge THANK YOU to the businesses and organizations that showed up to connect families with opportunities and invest in our community.

And to our generous partners, Taco Bell Foundation, Tacala Companies and RC&D, thank you for making experiences like this possible and empowering the next generation of changemakers!

With more than 23 years of leadership within Boys & Girls Clubs and 9 years as CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama, Kim has dedicated her career to creating opportunities, inspiring young people and building Great Futures.

Her vision, passion and unwavering commitment to our mission have been instrumental in the growth and success of our organization. Under her leadership, we’ve expanded our reach, strengthened our impact and continued to open doors for the youth and families we serve.

We are incredibly grateful for all she has accomplished and even more excited for what’s ahead!

🌟 Allen – Greensboro Club
Allen demonstrates leadership, respect, and responsibility while bringing a positive attitude to the Club. He enjoys getting help with his homework and spending time with his friends.

🌟 Bella – Hasson Club
Bella is known for her kindness, positive attitude, and responsibility. She treats others with respect, welcomes other Club Kids, and sets a great example for her peers.

🌟 Majesty –Jaycee Park Club
Majesty brings joy and enthusiasm to learning. She enjoys working on projects with other Club Kids, collaborating with her peers, and participating in STEM activities.

Our Club Teens are turning advocacy into ACTION, and we need YOUR support! 💙💚

Each year, Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama teens have the incredible opportunity to travel to our nation’s capital to advocate for issues that matter most to them and their communities.

Last year, our teens chose mental health awareness and turned their passion into purpose by hosting a Mental Health Fair in Hale County that welcomed more than 200 attendees!

This year, they’re focusing on resources and opportunities for single-parent families, and they’re bringing that mission home with a FREE community Job & Career Fair!

Meet Our Staff Monday! 💙

Meet Dee Winters, our Teen Program Director!

Dee is a Tuscaloosa native and Stillman College graduate. He first became part of the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama family as a Club Kid at our Jaycee Park Club. After growing up at the Club and making memories playing basketball and competing in ping pong tournaments, Dee eventually returned to JPU as a Youth Development Professional, where he spent two years helping create meaningful experiences for the next generation of Club Kids. He has since stepped into his current role as Teen Program Director, continuing to make a difference in the lives of young people.

Dee is passionate about helping teens navigate the challenges of growing up while building confidence, developing new skills, and discovering opportunities for their future. Over the summer, he helped lead our teens on their trip to Washington, D.C. He also works with our teens on their TLC initiative, which focuses on providing resources and support for single parents. As part of this initiative, the teens are hosting a career fair for single parents this Friday!

Dee lives by the motto “I can do better” and encourages the teens he works with to embrace that same mindset in their everyday lives. Whether it’s improving their grades, building confidence, or developing a positive attitude, he wants every teen to recognize their potential and find ways to grow.

We’re excited to have Dee leading our teen programs and helping our Club Kids grow into confident young people who make a difference in their community!

⚽ Kickin’ it at the Club!

Our Club Kids are getting active, learning new skills, and having a whole lot of fun playing soccer! Through our partnership with Druid City FC, Club Kids have access to FREE after-school soccer designed to make the game accessible while creating opportunities to learn, grow, and build confidence.

For the past three years, Druid City FC has provided free after-school soccer to local nonprofits and schools, with the goal of making soccer more accessible to kids in our community. We’re proud to be one of the local organizations benefiting from their efforts to empower youth through soccer.

Whether they’re practicing their footwork, learning to work as a team, or just having fun with friends, our Club Kids are getting more than just time with a soccer ball. They’re building skills, making memories, and staying active along the way. 💙⚽

🏈 Teen Nights are back at the Club!

Our Teen Center kicked things off with Newcomers vs. OG’s for a night of football, food, games, and good energy. It was a great way to bring teens together, welcome new faces, and reconnect with familiar ones.

Teen Nights will be held on the last Thursday of every month, so stay tuned for what’s coming next!

We loved celebrating Grandparents Day with an evening of bingo, smiles, and special time together with our Club Kids and their grandparents. Moments like these remind us how special it is to bring generations together and make memories that last far beyond the game.

Thank you to all of the grandparents and families who joined us for such a fun evening!

And stay tuned… we’re planning to do it again in November! We’d love to have local senior organizations join us, too!
