Today, as our Volunteer Allocation Team gathers, we are missing a dear friend and a familiar voice at the table: Rick Funk.

Rick was a dedicated VAT cabinet leader and a passionate champion for our partner agencies. When difficult conversations arose, we could count on him to bring perspective, reason and a willingness to help find a solution.

He was also an active member of ReUnited—even if no one could convince him to stay retired for long. At this year’s Campaign Kickoff, he represented the group by helping guests find their seats, doing what came naturally to him: making people feel welcome.

Each holiday season, Rick made gifts to United Way in honor of his friends and family, sharing his love for this community with the people he loved. His generosity was personal, thoughtful, and a reflection of who he was.

Rick was a true friend of United Way who understood what it means to LIVE UNITED. We will miss his leadership, his kindness, and, most of all, his friendship.

We’re missing you at the table today, Rick. And we will miss you for a long time to come.

If your child is registered to receive Dolly Parton's Library Imagination Library books in Tuscaloosa County, look for an email opportunity to get $5 for completing a survey. Please help us by answering the questions. The first email was sent last Tuesday from United Way of West Alabama and a reminder was sent this morning. Thank you in advance!

Thank you to The University of Alabama, Dr. Mohler, the College of Human Environmental Sciences, and Dean Stuart Usdan for welcoming us this afternoon for a fun kickoff to UA’s Faculty and Staff Campaign!

We’re thrilled to have the University as a partner once again. We know UA faculty and staff will go big for West Alabama this year, just as they always do.

And a huge congratulations to the student-led campaign, spearheaded by the UA Student Government Association, for already surpassing its goal—reaching 105% and counting! We can’t wait to see what you accomplish next. Thank you for helping our communities LIVE UNITED!
