The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men’s fraternal service organization whose mission is to witness to our principles of charity, unity and fraternity by performing spiritual and corporal works of mercy locally and throughout the world. They should be on topic and presume the good will of other users. Discussion should focus on the good works and charitable mission of Council 4083, its Ladies A

uxiliary, and Assembly 2527 in Tuscaloosa, AL. No ads please. By posting any comments, you agree to read and follow the Knights of Columbus Member Social Communications Policy (https://www.kofc.org/un/apps/en/apps/supremeadvocate/resources/member_social_communications_policy.pdf). The administrator reserves the right (but is not obligated) to remove posts that are abusive, illegal or disruptive, or that otherwise fail to conform to the Member Social Communications Policy and may terminate a user's access to this site for any breach of this policy. We are part of the World’s Largest Men’s Catholic Fraternity with more than 1.8 million members. The Tuscaloosa Knights and Ladies are very active in many local charitable endeavors with the goal to improve the quality of life for the entire Community through the application of our Faith Values. When the Knights of Columbus was founded in 1882, its founder, Fr. Michael McGivney could not have foreseen the global threats to our Christian way of life, but his formula for providing for the common good has demonstrated that the principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism, on which our Order was founded, are universal and timeless. Our Knights Hall, located on the campus of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, provides facilities that allow for a wide range of events to provide for both the business needs and social interaction so vital to a charitable, fraternal organization. Our Council values family, as much as it does fund raisers. It is interested in young men as much as the longtime family member and values the input of each member regardless of their life station. We know that by opening our Council doors to all Catholic men, 18 years or older, and sharing with them the excitement of reaching deep into the community to provide youth programs, family programs, programs to support individuals with intellectual disabilities, programs to support a cleaner environment, programs supporting the clergy and seminarians, involvement with the wheelchair foundation, and support of charities like Catholic Family Services, we are helping to improve life for many in our community while having fun and fostering fraternity in the process. We are proud of the fact that we promote a campaign to Keep Christ in Christmas and favor activities supporting our the culture of life. We take pride in our support of EWTN programming as the Knights of Columbus pay for all of the satellite uplinks for Christmas and Easter Masses broadcast from the Vatican each year. And we are especially proud of the fact that Order will and has paid for the downlinks of those broadcasts in countries who could not afford to do so for their citizens. We are particularly proud to support our veterans, whether at home or abroad, for their efforts to preserve the the liberties we enjoy today. Our Fourth Degree Knights are dedicated to the principle of Patriotism and actively support the Tuscaloosa Veterans Affairs Medical Center and its hundreds of resident patients. We are proud to participate in a program to supply, resources, and spiritual support to the clergy currently stationed abroad. The Bishop of the Diocese of Birmingham, Robert Baker, has reminded our Knights that, outside the clergy itself, the Knights of Columbus is the only Catholic sanctioned organization that takes and oath, very much like the clergy’s vows, to uphold and promote the principles of our Catholic faith. As testament to the the profound personal impact of our work, it is common to hear a Knight profess openly that he has become a better Catholic through his membership in the Knights of Columbus. So, with these thoughts and ideas as a backdrop, please continue your journey through this web site to learn more about what it means to be a Knight of Columbus in Tuscaloosa. As you visit the pages of this site, look at the photos, and follow the links to other areas of interest, we hope you get a sense of what it is that we do as we tell the story of improvement through the application of Catholic Christian core values indigenous to the Knights of Columbus and their work to improve our world.

Worthy Knights Ricky Turkiewicz and John Pomerleau (photographer) came over yesterday afternoon to completely clean out the Knights Hall for Joe Howley’s arrival this morning bringing his machines and chemicals for the annual stripping and waxing of all the Knights Hall floors before Ricky & John returned later this afternoon putting everything back the way it was. The floors look great — please please be gentle on them for the next 12 months. Below are some before & after photos of the process. Thank you Ricky, John, & Joe!

In other Council business, plans for the Installation of Officers ceremony scheduled for Sunday, July 26, and the potluck meal following in the Knights Hall was discussed. Also discussed was the stripping and waxing of our Knights Hall floors this Monday, the plans for a total rebuild of our underground pit, our Parish’s Community Soup Bowl commitment on August 28 - 30, our Labor Day Weekend Boston Butt Sale, and our upcoming transfer of our Council’s savings into short-term and long-term CDs. Knight of the Month is Fred Garcia. Family of the month is Carol & Charles (deceased) Naylor. Winner of the 50/50 drawing was Rich Ranson who was AWOL so pot remains at $91. The Knights from Holy Spirit Council 4083 who showed up at the Knights Hall patio this morning were fired up and took care of business as we prepped and then dropped 120 Boston Butts into a very hot underground pit. We’ll remove them tomorrow morning ready for the parishioners to bring home their perfectly roasted pork butt order following their Sunday Mass. Below are a few photos in chronological order of our morning’s process. Vivat Jesus!
