Through our 5th Quarter Program, student volunteers and West Alabama Food Bank staff collect unserved food that vendors donate instead of discarding. The recovered food is gathered from the North Zone, South Zone, and skyboxes, then safely repackaged and transported to the Food Bank.

From there, it is distributed through our partner agencies to help provide meals to families and individuals across West Alabama.

A single Bryant-Denny game can provide approximately 2,200 pounds of recovered food turning food that might otherwise go to waste into meals for our neighbors.

For too many families in West Alabama, the nearest grocery store is more than 25 miles away. That's not an inconvenience, that's a food desert, and it's the daily reality for neighbors across our rural service area.

Our Mobile Pantry meets that need head-on. We load up truckloads of nutritious groceries and drive them directly into underserved, hard-to-reach communities.

For many seniors living on fixed incomes, this isn't a "what if." By the fourth week of the month, they may be forced to make that heartbreaking choice: groceries or medication. For thousands of older adults across West Alabama, this is their reality.

The Brown Box program provides food at no cost to eligible seniors. Eligibility is based on federal poverty guidelines, and much of the food comes from generous wholesalers, grocers, and community food drives.

This Hunger Action Month, let's come together to make sure no senior in West Alabama has to choose between putting food on the table and taking care of their health.
