Congratulations to our very own Kaytie Colbert on her recent graduation!

Kaytie completed her degree with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing this past December 2025. She is a citizen of the Echota Cherokee Tribe of Alabama, and she is Poarch Creek and Chickasaw. Some of her favorite college memories include attending BISON’s 1st Annual Cultural Exhibition, meeting Katherine and Kiana (BISON’s founders), sitting under the trees at the Gorgas House Museum, and having the opportunity to take UA’s Cherokee Language course with Mr. Drowning Bear. Post-graduation, she plans to complete her second bachelor’s degree in Food & Nutrition. She also plans to apply for Family Nurse Practitioner school and obtain her Doctor of Nursing Practice. Her long-term goal is to become a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Registered Dietitian (RD). She would like to give back and help her people by working as an FNP and RD on a reservation or with a tribal community in the near future.
