Lester's Legacy

Lester's Legacy Lester's Legacy honors the life, story and art of Lester Eugene Potts, Jr. of Pine Grove, Alabama.

Lester, a sawmiller and lumberman, became an internationally-acclaimed watercolor artist after the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease while participating in an arts program at Caring Days, a dementia daycare center. Lester's life and story offer hope and inspiration to all with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of cognitive impairment, as well as to their caregivers. Though Alzheimer's ravages the mind, the emotional self still remains, and is capable of creating beautiful things.

"i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday, this is the birth
day of life and love and wings; and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth.
now the ears of my ears are awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened."
