Schoolyard Roots

Schoolyard Roots Schoolyard Roots (formerly DCGP) is committed to growing gardens and growing minds. See more at www.schoolyardroots.org

By increasing access to fresh, locally-grown produce, we empower our community to make healthy and sustainable food choices. Using our unique curriculum, we teach a hands-on science- and math-based education to Kindergartners through 5th graders. Every week during the school year, students explore science by participating in our outdoor teaching tool – the garden. Students dissect carrots to learn

about tap roots, they multiply recipes to understand fractions, they go on math-based scavenger hunts to unfold the secrets of the garden, and so much more.

✨ Seeds to Supper Recap ✨
Last week, our community came together for an unforgettable evening — and because of YOU, we raised nearly $10,000 to support hands-on garden education for Tuscaloosa’s students! 🌱💚
A huge thank you to everyone who purchased tickets, attended, donated, and made this night possible. We are so moved by this community’s generosity.
This event would not have been what it was without some truly incredible people:
🍽️ Chuck's Fish — Erin Barfield, Matt Loyd, and the entire Chuck’s Fish team dreamed up and executed an extraordinary menu featuring produce from Snow’s Bend Farm AND our own Schoolyard Roots gardens. Their vision and hospitality brought the whole evening to life.
🌿 Snow's Bend Farm — for providing gorgeous, seasonal produce that shined in every single course.
🍷 Jennifer Bologna of Spirits Wine Cellar & Amanda Delchamps of International Wines — for curating a stunning wine pairing list and sharing their incredible expertise with our guests all evening.
🌟 Brandon, Gavin, and the team at Ringer Wilks Co. — for not only sponsoring Seeds to Supper, but bringing their incredible vision to every last detail of the night.
We are so lucky to be surrounded by people who believe in this work. Because of your support, even more kids will get to put their hands in the dirt, grow their own food, and discover the magic of the garden. 🥕🌻
Thank you, thank you, thank you and we can’t wait to do it again! 🙏

We want to give a big THANK YOU to as our school gardens continue to grow! Our students have loved planting carrot seeds, harvesting fresh produce, and enjoying eating the carrots they helped grow. They have also been creating healthy green garden smoothies using the ingredients from the garden and tasting sugar snap peas straight from the vine! We are truly grateful to the Whole Foods Foundation for making this hands-on learning a possibility!
