Today’s lesson was all about Character Education + Workplace Social Skills! 💙

Using Rocket Ship, Solo Trip, our students explored what it means to be READY—ready to learn, ready to communicate, ready to make good choices, ready to ask for help, and ready to take on new challenges.

And then they put their creativity to work by designing their very own rockets! 🎨🚀

Because workplace readiness starts with more than knowing how to do a job—it starts with learning how to listen, communicate, problem-solve, persevere, work with others, and believe in yourself. 💼❤️

Sometimes a student doesn’t need more pressure—they just need a little more support, patience, encouragement, and focused attention. ❤️

I’m opening limited spots for small-group Saturday tutoring sessions designed to help students:

📝 Strengthen reading, writing & math skills
📖 Catch up on homework & assignments
🧠 Build study and organizational skills
💜 Support students with IEPs/504 plans
🌱 Build confidence and independence
🎯 Work toward their individual academic goals

Conversation Skills: Word Building & Role Play

Focus Skill: Conversation Skills
Activities: Word Building, Discussion & Role Play

Last Friday, DorAnn, Inc. facilitated a Conversation Skills lesson using The Rabbit Listened as the central story. Students explored the importance of listening, responding, and communicating with others through guided discussion and interactive activities.

Students practiced building words connected to communication and relationships and participated in role-play scenarios that allowed them to practice appropriate conversational responses.

The lesson emphasized:

* 👂 Active listening
* 💬 Taking turns during conversations
* 🧠 Choosing appropriate words
* ❤️ Showing empathy and understanding
* 🤝 Responding appropriately to others
* 🗣️ Using conversation skills in everyday situations

Through the story and role-play, students had opportunities to recognize that sometimes people need someone to listen, rather than immediately trying to fix a problem.

Pathways Lab Connection:
The activity supported DorAnn, Inc.’s goal of helping students build practical social-emotional, communication, and relationship skills that can contribute to stability, confidence, and positive interactions at school and in the community.

Through our Pathways to Stability Community Partner Services, we help connect individuals and families with practical resources and supportive programming that encourage stability, purpose, and progress.

Partnership services may include:

💜🩷Pathways Lab: Storybook to Strength | Social Skills in Action 💜🩷

This week, our students continued building functional social skills with a lesson on Personal Space & Boundaries!

Students worked through real-life scenarios involving personal belongings, hugs, phones, lunch lines, and recognizing when someone needs more space. We reinforced three simple but powerful responses:

🟢ASK FIRST — Before touching someone or their belongings.
🔵 GIVE SPACE — Notice body language and respect personal space.
🔴 STOP — When someone says “no” or “stop,” we stop.

Students were able to access the lesson at their individual level through written scenarios, visual sorting cards, hands-on participation, verbal responses, and communication supports.

These may seem like simple skills, but they are essential for self-advocacy, safety, healthy relationships, school, community life, and future employment.

Through DorAnn, Inc.’s Pathways Lab: Storybook to Strength, we’re creating opportunities for students of ALL abilities to learn skills they can use beyond the classroom.

📚 Learn it.
🧩 Practice it.
🗣️ Communicate it.
🌎 Use it in real life.

💜 Pathways Lab: Storybook to Strength 💜

Today, our Social Skills lesson focused on “Emotions: What Am I Feeling?” 🧠✨

Our students explored different emotions and practiced identifying how certain situations can make us feel. What made today especially meaningful was seeing every learner participate in a way that worked for them—some completed the activity independently, while others participated with hand-over-hand support or communicated their responses using an AAC device. 💜

We ended our lesson with a clip from Inside Out 2, where Anxiety becomes overwhelmed and Joy encourages Anxiety to let go. It gave us a great visual for understanding that sometimes our emotions can feel BIG—but we can learn to recognize them, communicate what we’re feeling, and develop healthy ways to respond.

Through DorAnn, Inc.’s Pathways Lab: Storybook to Strength, we’re using stories, visuals, communication, and real-life connections to help students turn what they learn into skills they can carry beyond the classroom.

Because social skills aren’t just classroom skills—they’re life skills. 🌱💪🏾
