Great Valley Writing Project (GVWP)

Great Valley Writing Project (GVWP) Great Valley Writing Project works to improve the teaching of writing by providing professional development courses for teachers, schools, and districts.

GVWP also provides Young Writers' workshops for K-12 students. GVWP recognizes that teachers are the key to educational reform and that experienced teachers are the best teachers of other teachers. The knowledge, expertise, and leadership of GVWP educators drives our sustained efforts to improve writing and learning for all learners.

While this article is from a few weeks ago, we are still looking for teachers for the Great Valley Writing Camp in Escalon. Participants can earn four units, up to two of their own personal children can attend for free, and they will have an amazing time with a fabulous team of teachers at a 1:4 teacher to student ratio. Our book is Harvey Daniels' The Curious Classroom and it's just what you expect from him and more. Contact TC Sally Hale ([email protected]) or Cassie Gregory ([email protected]) if you are interested or know someone who might be.

Camp dates are weekday mornings, July 14 through July 25, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., on the Dent Elementary School campus.

Our Waterford Summer Academy students, teachers, and families gathered Wednesday evening for a Celebration of Student Work. Each student was presented with a printed anthology, each student had the opportunity to read their work in Authors’ Chair, and then shared pizza and fixings. Parents and teachers were able to meet and share pride in the hard work all of these kiddos did during the month of June!

Coming down to crunch time so today was spent getting work “publication ready” with finishing touches. Mrs. Gregory was deep into editing while the other four of us were working with individuals and small groups polishing that work.

"Publication Ready" is our euphemism for “I’m Done.”

Our Waterford Writers took a field trip today to Knights Ferry where they had a water safety program, played the Salmon Game, took a short hot-weather hike around the historical area of the park, and toured the visitors’ center. The only complaint we heard, despite the heat, was that they didn’t write enough! That’s the kind of complaining we want to hear!

Huge shoutout to Ranger Perez for an amazing day and to Mr. and Mrs. Condon for the ice cream! Plus a big, old Happy Birthday for our own Mrs. Gregory!
