Its almost that time Derby fans! The Turlock Lions Club and Stanislaus County Fair has created a few rule sets for this years Destruction Derby. We will be having our typical modifieds, our Standard Derby Rules and brand new basic stock class where you just show up with minimal work and get after it with your friends!!!! We have been thrilled at the early responses! Sign up early, its going to be a great show this year!!

Derby time! A great second night showing for the annual Stanislaus County Fair Destruction Derby. We had a mix of everything. Limos, girls behind the wheel and of course, the fan favorite Motorhome Derby to end the night. We appreciate all the fans coming out to support and our participants! Can’t wait to see everyone again next year!

Holy girl power! After a bit of a slower first night in terms of cars, the second night of the annual Destruction Derby was a big success. Shoutout to winners of the heats! Kylee Kelso, in the fan favorite pink limo, comes up with the win in the Chain and Bang class. Josh Holt takes the win in super entertaining Motorhomes. And how about The Powder Puff division. Abigail Holt comes away with the win with a great performance from Jessica Hicks and Allison Holt that had the crowd entertained the whole time. Great job to all the participants. Can’t wait to get back at it and see everyone back at the derby next year! Congrats to everyone! Great show!

Don Nordell
March 20, 1943 - July 3, 2025

Don Nordell was born and raised in Turlock, California. He dedicated 35 years of service to the Turlock Irrigation District, beginning in 1967 and retiring in 2002 at the age of 58. Don married Cheryl (Johnson) Nordell on July 26, 1991, and built their life together.

Don was a proud and active member of the Turlock Lions Club for 55 years and also participated in SIRS, a local travel club. Known fondly as “Crash Nordie,” he competed in the Turlock Destruction Derby for many years, bringing excitement and spirit to the event. He had a passion for travel and adventure, enjoying RV trips that took him across the United States and Canada. Don also cherished time spent fishing and enjoying time with his family and friends. His big smile, humor, and dedication to community will be deeply missed.

Don is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Margaret (Bredenberg) Nordell and brother Steve Nordell.

Don is survived by his wife, Cheryl Nordell, children, Randy Nordell, Rick Nordell, Robin Berdino, Erin Russell, Kristen Booth, and Scott Johnson, as well as 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Bette Harry.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 4 at 11 AM at Valley Hope Community Church, 610 W. Hawkeye Ave. in Turlock. A luncheon will follow the service.

Memorial donations can be made in Don’s memory to the Turlock Lions Club to support Lions Club community projects. Send donations to Turlock Lions Club, PO Box 512, Turlock, CA 95381.
