TONIGHT ✨ Did you know that light pollution affects far more than just our stargazing? It has a profound impact on local ecosystems, wildlife health, and our own well-being.

Join us this evening, June 2nd at 7:00 PM EST, for an engaging presentation by Jim Webster, an amateur astronomer, astrophotographer, and dedicated DarkSky New Jersey advocate. Jim will explore the consequences of artificial light and discuss how anyone can contribute to space and Earth sciences through community projects like SciStarter's "Globe at Night."

As Jim notes: “I have been doing this for a few years and still consider myself a beginner and always will; there is always something new to learn.”

✨ Protecting Our Night Skies ✨

Did you know that light pollution impacts more than just our view of the stars? It plays a massive role in the health of our local wildlife, ecosystems, and human well-being.

Join us tomorrow, June 2nd at 7:00 PM EST, for an eye-opening presentation by Jim Webster, an amateur astronomer, Astro-photographer, and advocate for DarkSky New Jersey. Jim will dive into the impact of light pollution and share how everyday citizens can get involved in space and Earth sciences using tools like the "Globe at Night" project on SciStarter.

As Jim puts it: “I have been doing this for a few years and still consider myself a beginner and always will; there is always something new to learn.”

Tremendous loss to the astronomical community

It is with deep regret that we inform you of the passing of Al Nagler, a dear friend of the Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory. Al developed the training and simulator screens for NASA’s Apollo moon missions before founding his own company, TeleVue Optics, in the 1970s.

Before the observatory was built, Al showed up at the group’s first star party on Little Wolf Pond. Marc Staves and the other stargazers gaped as Al pulled a series of high-end telescopes from his trunk. Al had heard about the party from his sister, Trudy Deutsch, who lived in town. After his sister’s death, Al generously donated an NP 101 refractor, a smaller, wide-field telescope in her memory that we still use today.

Through his pioneering work designing and developing wide-field eyepieces, Al Naglar transformed amateur astronomy. He brought the cosmos closer to so many, inspiring wonder, curiosity, and joy.

Read about his fascinating journey from The life and times of Al Nagler by Michael E. Bakich, including his interests in art, classical music, and sound equipment:https://mcusercontent.com/e087159f9fcab765b452dfd09/files/17ba5eff-cb1e-9051-6839-af57be0f16b2/Astronomy_LifeOfAlNagler_2013APR.pdf
