This is what a sterilization clinic in Mexico looks like. Thank you for organizing it all. Thank you for your surgical expertise. Thank you volunteers for showing up and working so hard over a number of long days to make a difference in the lives of these dogs and cats. We cannot rescue our way out of the dog and cat overpopulation crisis. Sterilization (spay/neuter) is the most effective, humane way to reduce homelessness and prevent suffering from life on the street. Since 2023, Street Dog Love has funded more than 4,500 spay/neuter surgeries. This fall, we will be sponsoring additional FREE sterilization clinics in Bacalar, San Pedro, Izamal, Sisal, and Celestun, Mexico, bringing our total to 5,000+ in just four years. From the bottom, middle and tippy tops of our hearts: THANK YOU Heather New England Lab Rescue for taking a chance on two dog rescuers in Mexico who were desperately seeking help finding homes for Fiona and Shrek. We reached out to many different rescues in the U.S. and you were the only one that responded back. You didn't have to do that. You could have just deleted our message and stayed focused on all of the other important rescue things that surely fill your days -- but you made room for one more rescue thing that day and for that, we (Deborah at AriGato Casita | Cat & Dog Rescue Yucatan and Laura Street Dog Love ) are forever grateful!

Yesterday was pure magic! I took former Mexican street dogs Fiona and Shrek on a winding four-hour road trip through the Adirondack Mountains of New York and the Green Mountains of Vermont to their new PERMANENT home and life with a kind, loving, gently-spirited woman named Connie who has lots of rescue experience and lives off a dirt road on 10 acres of bucolic pasture and woods with dog-walking trails and a deck overlooking it all for soaking up the morning sun. See, I told you it was magic!

Former street dogs Shrek & Fiona left Mexico last Sunday and are now in foster care in the United States with a possible permanent adoption as a bonded pair already on the horizon! More on that later. For now, we were happy to be part of the village (along with AriGato Casita and New England Lab Rescue) that helped these beauties go from homelessness to happiness! Today we brought food, fresh water, and Bravecto (prevents fleas and ticks for 3+ months) to three amigo street dogs (and their pet cat) that we have been helping in Tulum for several years. The dogs were all sterilized several years ago thanks to our friend and supporter Elizabeth Bayless.
