Tupper Lake Business Group Announces Formation of a Tax-Free Fund-Raising Entity to Support Recreation Development!
“Recreate Tupper Lake” Will Enhance Quality of Life for Citizens of the Adirondacks.
The Vision is to become “A Must Visit Recreation” stop for Locals and Tourists Alike.
Supporting Commercial Services Businesses Will Create new Jobs and Fuel the Economic Transformation of Tupper Lake.
The Tupper Lake Business Group announced formation of a tax-free entity (501 C3) to facilitate efficient fund raising for the five initiatives outlined in phase 1 of the groups Recreation Development Plan for Tupper Lake.
The Tupper Lake Business Group is a committee of local business professionals who seek to enhance the quality of life for residents, business owners, seasonal homeowners and visitors alike in the Town and Village of Tupper Lake by developing the full potential of the unique recreational assets Tupper Lake has within its community boundaries. A “phase-one plan framework, with five initial initiatives has been drafted and socialized throughout the community.
The overall plan will provide locals and families within a 300-mile radius unique family friendly recreation experiences that deliver enjoyment and satisfaction superior to other north country options.
Tourism and visitation to Tupper Lake will increase as the Cross-Roads of the Adirondack’s positions itself to compete more fully with other outdoor recreation centers within the region. The Community will experience higher quality of living through recreation and the commercial businesses formed to serve the needs of visitors wanting food, lodging, special services (e.g., bike repair, canoe rentals, ski shops, gasoline and other retail). The result will create jobs, generate sales and use taxes, and increase value of all property in the Community.
The committee is currently seeking a tax-free status through a 501 C-3 filing. This new entity- “Recreate Tupper Lake”- will be a fund-raising mechanism for each of the recreation development initiatives. The Mission of the entity is to encourage investment in outdoor recreation as a catalyst to spur economic development in Tupper Lake for the benefit of visitors and citizens alike for decades to come.
“While “Recreate Tupper Lake” is the name of the entity which will be used as a primary fund-raising vehicle, the name also reflects the vision and intention of the plan; “The intention is to re-create Tupper Lake’s economy to focus on recreation. This name reflects the broad intention and spirit of the entire undertaking”. “Economic development through recreation activity and commercial services is the fundamental approach our group is taking to help shape the future of our Community”.
The vision for each of the five recreation development initiatives are:
1. Tupper Lake Golf Club Vision: We envision the future Tupper Lake Golf Club’s Donald Ross course and venue to be one of the premiere golf and event destinations in the Adirondack Park. The well-maintained fully irrigated course with accompanying restaurant and lounge provides people with great golf and comradery in a wonderful setting
2. Big Tupper Vision: An accessible four-season family friendly recreation center on the Big Tupper Properties. With full Community access to hiking, mountain biking, cross-country and alpine skiing, Big Tupper will provide family friendly leisure activity for locals and visitors alike. It will be a “must visit” recreation center for people living in or visiting the Adirondack’s.
3. Mountain Biking Vision: The “Tupper Lake Mountain Bike Trails” will provide distinctive single-track trails designed to deliver riders unique experiences in this fast-growing sport. Our initial focus will be a trail nestled in a section of a 628-acre plot of NYS land approximately 6-miles south of the Village along the shores of Tupper Lake. These exciting trails will have no rival in the North Country given their close proximity to the lake, varying elevations and the striking views for riders. Our focus will expand to include trails on Big Tupper, along with multiple other trail systems built to match the varying technical skills of riders.
4. Snowmobiling Vision: Tupper Lake is the epicenter for snowmobiling in The Adirondacks. With the removal of the rails on the rail trail corridor from Tupper to Lake Placid, the newly expanded and well-maintained trail system connects a number of existing local trails with those in St. Lawrence, Franklin, Hamilton, Essex and Franklin Counties. Tupper Lake is the perfect destination for those seeking extraordinary and diverse geography, great snow and well-maintained trails for great riding.
5. James C. Frenette Sr. Cross Country Ski Center Vision: A family friendly system of versatile trails suitable for cross country skiers, snowshoers, hikers, and fat tire bike riders of all ages and abilities. Parking at Tupper Lake Country Club, skiers are able to traverse multiple topographies and forests of a well maintained and curated system of interesting trails that run parallel to portions of the golf course… then ski the perimeter of Cranberry Pond and bog and transition through rolling hills using old tote roads at base of Big Tupper.
